    CARBON!

When I bought my car from the showroom, I really liked the piano black interior trim. Made the car for me. The carbon fiber that I saw in the C6 s6 I was shopping for before I decided on a C7 seemed rather lackluster and one dimensional. After the fact, I asked the dealer to price out a set of carbon fiber as I thought maybe I would switch it out. The price was astronomical!! I quickly gave up on that idea.

Fast forward to a few months back and I stumbled on a thread with oCarbon presenting the whole process of taking a set of stock trims, sanding them down and adding real carbon fiber to the surface. The photos looked amazing! The weave that they use is the RS weave which I think is different than what the S6 gets. It is more coarse and 3D.

I found a set of trim in the classifieds for a reasonable price and after some discussions with Matt at oCarbon I decided to go ahead with the transformation. He kept me updated with photos during the process and has been very cool in a number of ways. It arrived very close to the projected completion date. Just got it installed yesterday (Not so easy!) and I really like it.

Here are some iPhone pics. The pic with the installed dash has a bunch of smears on it from the install finger prints that I failed to wipe off. Thats not the way it looks, but it is dark now and I don't want to redo the photo. How do you like it? :

Probably more bad stories about working with Matt, then good ones. I was one of those who did not have a good experience. He does do nice work though.

Matt/oCarbon has made some quality parts but as others pointed out, he's not been stellar to deal with, especially lately. Was there a write up you used for swapping the trim? I'd be interested to see. I may do something with mine.

I've been going back and forth with this. I am willing to be patient and wait for good quality work, but then again, that's easier said than done. I think my A6 would look amazing with carbon trim and titanium grey interior.

I did a search on removing interior trim which gave me this link here:

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...+interior+trim

There is a link there to another page that has drawings that help to remove center console. It is a link to another forum. Not sure if its ok to post but here:

    http://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-c...nsole-2875274/

I had my stereo install guy do it because he is really good at taking interior apart. It is a big job that I would not have attempted prior to watching him do it. Now that I have seen him I think it is possible but definitely a lot of work and tricky too. He did it in about 2.5 hours.

Okay so I found this trim package for a good price. At first I thought it was a carbon fiber trim (based on one of the photos), but it looks like a silver finish called flex metallic. I am not familiar with flex metallic, does anyone have photos of an interior with it?

@squarefoot : looks like the one I have - will make some pics once in the garage. In some other cars, I've seen a silver trim, that had this texture on it, so maybe thats the "flex" .. for example the beamers have this aluminium trim, where the surface is not smooth, but a bit grainy.

I would also like to wrap my trim, but looking at the tutorials, its a bit scary :) .. anyway, I would probably go for the carbon as well, but not the shiny one, rather matte, with the carbon textured surface :)

That is the light for my Bel Stir radar detector. It changes to red when it is detecting radar. I have the display mounted in my rear view mirror which also gives an indication of radar detection and type. There is also a blue LED below the green one for the ALP laser jammer, but it goes off after it arms and only comes on when you are shot with laser.

Thanks Disstrict!! Looks good, much nicer than the walnut IMO. My favorite is still the carbon fiber.

I did some more searching and found the "flex metallic 5ma" finish that is listed on the BKS page is a European standard finish, not an USA option. And to add more confusion, the two photos that BKS shows do not match the option that they are selling.

Here's brochure page for a European model...

I just wanted to bump this thread for another good report re oCarbon.

You will note in pics at the top of the thread, that one of the front door pieces does not have a seat memory switch location.

The reason that is, is that when I bought the set of used trim it never occurred to me to look at that. The fact is, there are A6 that do not have passenger seat memory switch. I had it shipped direct to oCarbon so I had never laid eyes on it myself. They had it pretty much all done when I mentioned to Matt that they forgot to cut the hole out. He told me there was no hole, that it was for a car that didnt have seat memory for passengers, like an A6.

So by some miracle, I had contacted a guy about a set of trim that he had for sale a long time ago and I was considering buying a whole set for the one piece. I explained my dilemma, and he told me that he had the opposite problem. His car was using a set he got that had the switch opening, but his car didn't have passenger seat memory. He put a phony switch in there to make it work. He told my about a one off piece without a switch opening on eBay. He said if I buy that piece off ebay that he would trade me for the one he had and we would both be in good shape. I was able to make a best offer and got the trim piece from ebays.

Matt was kind enough to agree to make the piece for me, and would take the one he had made previously with no hole in trade, no further charge.

Well the piece arrived today and it looks great. I had removed the memory seat switch which allowed me to use that other piece until the new one was finished. Thanks to Matt at oCarbon doing me this favor, I have been restored to the correct situation and it feels good.

Props to Matt @ oCarbon for a job well done! It really looks awesome!
