Rear Bumper Repair - Advice / Recommendations?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

This week I was rear-ended by an idiot without insurance and he ended up fleeing from the scene. Needless to say, I'm in need of a body shop for repairs. The damage is minor, but I expect the rear bumper will need to be replaced. I have high expectations and do expect it to come back as good as factory quality.

My first question is if anyone has recommendations on body shops in the Austin, TX area? Secondly, anything to look out for in general with our cars? I've got Estoril Blue, so I already expect slightly more difficulty with paint.

Thanks in advance for your advice!
    Josh

Probably should post in the regional forum for your area for better local contact.

Hard to tell from the photo, but did he get the bumper or just the diffuser?

I did that too, but here I was hoping to garner more general advice. The central regional forum is very low activity anyway. :(

It is hard to tell, but yes he got the bumper as well. Very minor, but the bumper has a couple of deep scratches and is dented in, along with the diffuser.

I am looking at pricing out a CF diffuser...maybe there is some hope for this?

Where are you in the "Austin area"? I'm up in Round Rock. I took my wife's king Ranch 150 to Caliber Collision up here when it got hit in a parking lot earlier this year. They did a great job. Can't see any texture, tape lines, paint spray, etc. I plan to take my A7 there for an estimate soon on a few items. Minor front end adjustments. Of course the dealer will tell you Roger Beasley collision. But I've have no experience with them.

Cedar Park, but I'm willing to go wherever is needed. I agree the dealer would push for Roger Beasley Collision, but sadly they may be the company that has the most experience working on these cars....

May be worth reaching out to Caliber Collision. They're off Mays in Round Rock. Like I said, they did a great job on our truck. I plan to go get an estimate for some front end tweaks on my car during the next few weeks.

Definitely hit up your regional area for suggestions........ Lots of shitty shops out there and few good ones. You might want to jump on a couple other enthusiast car forums in your area for recommendations. Find a shop that is unanimously recommended among car enthusiasts.

Caliber Collision has a lifetime warranty on their work as long as you are the owner of the vehicle. You can also ask them how they are going to conduct the repairs.

I was rear ended this fall, damage to bumper cover and the trunk. They were able to fix it all without replacing any parts.
It came out great and I am very happy with the results.
At first i wanted a new trunk and bumper cover. But they explained to me that they could fix it no problem. Lifetime satisfaction warranty so if I ever notice something i don't like just bring it back and they will fix it until I'm satisfied. He told me it is in their best interest to make it perfect the first time as if I bring it back it is then on their dime.

The OEM diffuser costs $350, can't speak to the bumper. I had almost the exact same damage to my bumper/diffuser fixed last week and it came out to around $900, most of which was to paint/buff the bumper. I also was a bit uneasy about getting the bumper repaired as the car was only 2 weeks old, but I can honestly say that I couldn't tell the difference between the repaired one and a new one. If you can't find a good independent body shop I'm guessing your local dealer probably has a body shop.
