Any ways to figure out if I have servotronic?

Title of the thread speaks for itself. Is there any sure way to figure out if an '03 audi a4 1.8T QT has servotronic steering or not?

Pretty sure that no B6 A4's had servo tronic, that didn't come until B7.

The factory window sticker that was on my '03 A4 Avant, 1.8T lists Servotronic in the equipment list, but in fact was not included.

    B5? and B6 S4 have servotronic stock.

Servotronic was available since the late '90's on A6 and A8.

Our B6 A4s can have servotronic by installing a B6 S4 or B7 S4 Servotronic steering rack, and adding the servotronic wiring harness, that provides power to the servotronic control module, and connects the control module to the servotronic solenoid valve on the steering rack. It is easy to do.

My urs6 had servotronic, really popular thing to do was unplug it, it made the steering way too lite.

Get a flash light. If you're lowered, lift the front, left corner up a bit so you can see over your wheel into the inner wheel arch. Follow the tie-rod in as it enters into engine bay. Look for a wire than comes out of the rear of the inner fender and goes into the engine bay right next to tie-rod. Don't mistake your abs sensor wire that's also right there but goes down to hub. You should even see the servo and connector on the rack from there. If you don't see either, then you don't have it.

Does the control module need to be retrofitted, as well, or do B6's already have that (and just need the harness and rack)?

I have an '03 1.8TQ Sedan, 5 Spd and mine doesn't have Servotonic. In fact, mine is a Koyo rack and I believe only ZF makes the Servotronic. I know because I replaced it with a rebuilt unit due to passenger side seal leak.

The control module must be installed as well. It is the size of a standard relay. It is located under the dash on the driver's side. The module fits a socket in the servotronic wiring harness.

Nice... I found the first part# the other day and wasn't sure since it didn't have a relay end on it. The two part#'s for the full harness are 8e1972120c and 8e1971323...

I am going to do this retrofit, do you have any knowledge of if there are any other wires that should go to the module? It seems like one end of the harness clips into the carrier, but it only has two wires.

Ever figure this out? I'm now in the middle of doing mine and realized what you're talking about... the servotronic harness from the rack is just 2 wires in an amp connector that doesn't physically match with the servotronic relay.

I need to take a better look under the dash and see if there's an existing relay panel the amp connector plugs into... the relay needs additional wiring (VSS, power, etc)

I'm sure the Bentley has a wiring diagram for servotronic.

I'd looked before in the B6 diagrams, but thinking again, I looked under the B7 this time and finally found it...

The servotronic wiring harness is a single item add on. You will also need the control module and the servotronic steering rack.

There's a wire harness from the firewall to the servotronic unit itself, but you also need wiring from the relay under the dash to the firewall. I was looking into this when I replaced my steering rack, but didn't have any wire to use to go from the relay to the firewall.

Yeah, like I mentioned earlier in the thead, the part#'s for the two wiring harnesses are 8e1971323 (rack to outside of firewall) and 8e1972120c (firewall to relay panel). I just need to get back under the dash tonight and take a closer look at where it's supposed to plug in, since it doesn't directly plug into the relay.

Well, like I figured, the spot for the relay is there, but no pre-wired socket for the relay.

Not sure if I feel like buying the official 9 pin relay socket and terminal crimp connectors to do this right... I might just end up wiring it up directly with some crimp on connectors and zip tie the relay in place. Or just not hook up the servotronic and hope it isn't obnoxiously heavy feeling with a quick ratio B7 S4 rack and the weight of a 2.7T to turn around....

FWIW, to anyone else that wants to wire this up, it was simple enough to figure out the pin-out.

Looks like relay socket part# 135-937-501A is the ticket. Got one on the way, and will hopefully have terminal connectors I can scavenge from an extra wiring harness so I don't spend $10 s/h on $0.30 worth of hardware...
