About once a month I get a message on the info screen asking if the key is in the car. Anyone else get this. Happens with both keys.

The only time I had the issue was when my cell phone and key were in the same pocket.

Mine has started doing it intermittently as well. Another odd thing it started doing is when I get out of the car, I have to open and close my door a second time before the doors will lock with the FOB. I ordered new batteries for main key and spare and hope that's all it is.

I guess I will have to change the battery. Never had this on my 2012 which I had for over two years. The 2014 started with this issue after 12 months.

My car was doing stuff like that recently. Also the advanced key system seemed to be acting up when I tried to open or lock the doors without using the fob. I've had the car for more than 2 years and never changed the key fob batteries. I just did that two days ago and there are no more issues. Zero. Change your battery.

Yeah I was surprised that one or both of my fobs are going dead after barely two years.

With daily use the battery in the advanced key fob only lasts somewhere around a year. They use more battery compared to the traditional fobs, because they basically constantly try to communicate with your car and while you drive the key is in constant communication with the car, so that uses battery. Traditional key fobs only use battery when you press one of the buttons to lock/unlock the car, so the batteries last a lot longer. However, with the advanced key, you should be getting a warning in the DIS if the battery is dying long before it stops working. I had to replace the battery in my main key after about 14 months or so. I got the warning in the DIS and I just replaced the battery, so I would say if the system is acting up and it's not telling you that you need to replace the battery, then something isn't working properly.

The highlighted section from the user manual talks about what's supposed to happen if the battery is dead.

you would think by now they would be a rechargeable battery is these fobs. when it gets low or if you want to charge it just put it in the key slot to start the car and have it charge when driving...

For storage, can the battery be removed from the second key fob without it losing the programming?
