    What is the most unique way to obliterate a 03 Audi A4 3.0 CVT Cabriole

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I purchased the car for 250.00 bucks. its in great cosmetic condition. It was parked for almost three years because of no funds to fix it. The owner move to downtown Chicago and had no need for it. So the mother took over the payments and parked it when the car went into the dark side. I had it towed to my house because the front passenger wheel was completely ceased. I fix that while driving around the block. I replace the original battery (G3) and the car started right up. I ordered a alternator because I don't see my required 14.4V. After reading the codes I'm almost convince that my best solution is to run it into a tree but before I will set it on fire. LLmao. The trans runs great but once the car the had difficulty engaging reverse.

    Codes Flashing PRND123,
    P0706= Trans range sensor
    P1857= Limp mode
    P1750= Supply voltage low. Alternator on order
    P0421 = I have to do the catalytic converter mode.
    P0507 = PVC Leak

    If you don't help me with advice I truly understand. Im aware of the Ebay TCM repair.

    I have a friend that buys old junkers a few times a year for under $100. On some random special occasion, he invites everyone over to shoot the living hell out of it for an afternoon. Tannerite and automatic weapons (Class 3 dealer is also a friend) are involved. We blew up a minivan last time. Part out the good cosmetic stuff, buy a shitload of ammo with acquired cash, then go Rambo on it.

    Get it running, pop the timing cover off and get a nice big axe. Get a friend to rev it to 8000 and take a good hard swing at the timing belt.

    clear codes and see if tcm code comes back. if so its time to get the tcm repaired. I tried to avoid it for months and ended up doing it. code never came back. u will get stuck somewhere if u keep the car and don't fix it.

    using VCDS or generic scanner?

    First things first, I recommend clearing all of the codes and then running the car for a moment, once power is lost to the control modules, they can do strange things. Since the car is in great cosmetic condition, you should try to get it running well enough to continue it's life.

    Here is some information regarding the transmission code. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...0/P0706/001798

    To me, the best way to kill it would be overheating the piss out of it. Take it off a couple jumps, the rad will bust, and it will start to overheat, maybe crack the oil pan hopefully.

    Drive it until it quits and then take the engine apart to see what it looks like. Maybe Im a geek, but inspecting a failed 1.8t sounds like a lot of fun.

    I've killed a northstar v8 just like that once. Thing ran for a pretty long time considering the revs it was putting out. Didn't have the interest to take about the engine though,

    The scanner is a Snap-On Verus Edge $4000.00 scanner. I went back to my generic scanner and noticed that I have the capability to scan A/T. So I got only the P0706 code. For the ECU I go the P0507 and P042. Its just hard to implode this SOB. I'm a masochist and for me it just another challenge. The car is like brand new cosmetically. I can recoup my money just by selling the softtop. I have the tools and a warm garage to work on it plus it would give me the opportunity to avoid my tirant and professional nagging wife. I would dig deeper and open the trans to replace the $60.00 filter besides flushing the oil and performing the adaptation procedure. I don't have a VAG-Log. Please I beg you to convince me to drive it into a wall!

    I'm going to wait until I install the alternator over the weekend and them have my mechanic (Free) erase the codes and them run it around the block (No license plate, not titled for now) and then have him re-check the codes. Looking for a solid wall, cliff or tree in the meantime.

    Nice info on the P0706 code. One of the possible items is No Reverse Lights. I noticed that the reverse bulbs are not lighting. I'll be replacing the bulbs this weekend. I have 17 days off starting today for the holidays. Plenty of time to go battle with this ABORTION from Hell of a car. Thanks 500HPSS

    It'd be stupid to destroy it. Put in a 5spd FWD transmission off a 1998-2004 VW Passat and sell it for $5k.

    If you picked it up for dirt cheap, why not fix the TCM and sell it for a huge profit?

    Fix:
    Send out the TCM for repairs.
    invest in oil and parts.
    I would do the labor.
    Perform adaptation procedure
    I guess about 500.00 for TCM repairs including parts and oil + purchase price 250+ 75 towing + 183.00 Battery + 118.00 Alternator + New Tires 400.00P0421 Code fix O2 extender ? = 1526.00 is all goes right.

    I'm just not totally convinced that it's worth the trouble. I know myself and probably end up going thru with it. At the end of the day it's a gorgeous convertible. Those last two words is what blinds you into your way to CVT hell. lol

    I had a dream or a nightmare that I was driving down this winding road with the top down. Fresh air flowing thru my nostrils and hair which I lost a long time ago. Horses roaming free thru the hills. I'm glad that I made the decision to conquered the infamous Audi A4 3.0 TCM modification from hell. Ocean water splashing down the cliffs while whales play along the crystal clear waters of the pacific. Birds flying in unison with the rainbow illuminating the skies. Radio blasting tunes of Gods in the background. Passing cars giving me the thumbs up and waving , smiling in confirmation of my decision to keep the Audi Cabriolet alive for the masses to see and enjoy. Then suddenly out of the blue this giant bolder rushes down mountain and squashes me into oblivion. I wake up in a pool of sweat. Can anyone decipher my dream?

    Even a crummy worn out Audi deserves respect. Don't make fun of it during its last days, just send it on to the future with dignity. Remember, some day you will be looking crummy and worn out too.

    I believe, and many others also, that Audis have a soul. A truly enlightened owner will often become one with an Audi's soul and celebrate it. To treat it badly near the end is bad karma for you. The Cabriolet did it's best, despite the abuse and neglect it received from it's owners who should have given it the care it deserved.

    RIP Cab.

    OK folks. I'm in. Diagnosticator and others on this forum gave me inspiration and strength. I called it Audi soul searching. I replaced the alternator and cleared all the codes. Now I have no engine light or codes. The flashing PRND limp mode disappeared and came back. The car runs great. Once in a while the reverse doesn't want to play nice. I also picked up some 18" rims and tires. Could it be something besides the TCM? Help!

    Check it out, I went to my mechanic to read the tranny codes while the PRND were flashing. P0706 was present. the codes were cleared two days ago. No flashing PRND lights since. Been driving the car normally. No codes, no limp mode, replaced the burned out rear licences plate bulbs. All shows OK on the dash after self diagnostics. But the reverse is slipping bad. It works coming out of the level garage in reverse. but has a hard time with minor incline. Would a VAR-Log provide more info to the cause of my problem? Any advice?

    I have a complete fwd 5 spd swap for the CVT out of my parts car. If you want to keep it going this is a great option. I just want to get rid of the stuff so PM me an offer if interested. Includes everything clutch, pedals, tranny, axels, master cylinder, shifter linkage.

    I'm scratching my head.

    Summary:

    Limp mode keeps showing up = P0706.
    Reverse works perfect while in limp mode = Flashing PRND
    The press the brake light below the parking position is not lit up when in limp mode and the engine light is lit. I can go from parking to drive without stepping on the break.
    When I clear the the tranny code P0706, the step on the break light lights back on and the reverse lips badly. I have to step on the break before I can shift to drive. I tried this three times with the same results. I left the P0706 on so I can drive with no slipping in reverse. What the hell is going on?

    Currently my center reverse light isn't working. Actually is intermittent. Sometimes it works. I have to take a look at it. But that doesn't explain my reverse slippage when I clear the codes. It looks like I'll have my hands full for a while chasing this ghost. That's a lot of checking. Great write up btw.
    Thanks 500!

    Adjust Gear Selector Cable = i noticed that my reverse engages a bit before it goes into the reverse position which is when the reverse light turns on. How do I Adjust Gear Selector Cable to engage only when the lever is in exactly in the reverse slot?

    That was copied/pasted from the Ross-Tech website. You would want to do the stuff in red as it is specific to CVT.
