When you find the answer please let me know I'm having the same problem, I went to autozone it's saying to replace the camshaft adjuster solenoid but I'm also getting codes for a turbo under boost

Deffintley post if you get this fixed, I have the exact same noise but no engine codes or anything. I have had it for some time now and decided I need to wait till something breaks or I get a cel.

I'm new to Audis but I thought these engines just sound like that. Like Hondas always had this ticking noise. Are you getting any codes?

I don't have any. Had a friend ride it in and he said he thought it was normal noise, so who knows I'll post when something breaks :)

If it helps mine sounds similar to that, i believe its something to do with the direct injection because they sound like a diesel on tickover!
Although mine doesnt have that metal sound, but not sure if thats the grips youve got resting on the engine.if not, may be worth getting it checked.

I'm new to German cars, but I don't think it's the direct injection ticking noise. What we are hearing and questioning about is that metal noise, almost like a bolt on a heat shield rattling noise. I however noticed on idle mine is pretty rythmic. About a second or two of the noise, then a second or two of it being silent. And repeat.

saw a video on youtube of a b7 with the same loud noise and everyone said it was because of the cam tensioner for engines with high miles. however, i have 188k on my b7 and don't have anywhere near this loud of an engine. post back I'm interested if you find antything out
