    2016 Model year S4 - No Manual?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was at the dealership earlier today, and the salesman stated that Audi will not be making any more manuals for the rest of the B8.5 life cycle? That you couldn't even special order a manual. Maybe the salesman was mistaken? I'm not talking about in the B9 body, but the B8.5. I already know the B9s unfortunately do not come equipped with manuals.

I have heard this as well. You might have to look at existing dealer stock for a 2016 manual.

All B8.5 production has stopped. You will need to check dealer inventories.

OP, for this instance (ONLY), the sales rep speaks the truth. All production orders were finalized by end of Q3' or Sept for MY 16' / B8.5 S4's. The build sheets for the B9 have not been released either but for sure the transmission option is only a ZF Auto box (torque converter). Remaining manuals are scattered across the country. Hope you find one with (GH2) sports diff and (PPY) black optics.

Out of curiosity, which dealership in NJ have you contacted?

I went to Bell Audi because that's the dealer I got my current Audi from. My lease will be up this summer and I wanted to move into an S4 with 6MT and sports diff...but now it's looking extremely and unfortunately unlikely.

A lot of people are reporting that they are hard to find now. But im sure if you want one and tell the dealer you want one. Im sure they will try their hardest to get you one. They should be able to search the entire state's inventory or if you find one at a different dealer in your state you can ask your dealer to get the car for you. That's what I did to get mine. Another dealer in my state had it and they did a DX to get it.

I ordered my 2016 manual S4 on June 30 and took delivery on September 25. I had heard rumors that the 6MT transmission was coming to and end for the 2016 model year and my salesman confirmed this on the day I picked up my new S4. He said that Audi was no longer accepting orders for S4's with manual transmissions and that I very well may have gotten one in the last production run with that transmission. FWIW, as I write this there are some 2016 S4's on dealer lots in my area with manual transmissions.

BTW, I have heard some bad things about Bell Audi in Edison, NJ.

You can still find them, but you'll have better luck looking yourself than asking your dealer to look for you. Your dealer will only look to get you a trade, so won't go to dealerships they can't trade with, and their trade radius is probably not very large. I bought a '16 about 6 weeks ago and had much more success searching individual dealerships myself than asking my dealer to look for a trade. I found a car in Boston (I'm in Rochester, NY) that my dealer couldn't, which is only a 6 hour drive. Cost $400 to ship, so if you're willing to pay to have a car shipped you can probably find a 6MT somewhere.

It's a sad sad moment... no more manual S4's being made. Sad sad sad.
I'd say my resale just went up!

Or, maybe the precipitously steep slope of your depreciation curve has decreased slightly.

My car had lost nearly 50% of its original value after only 30k miles, even with an MT and a CPO warranty. Ouch.

When I looked on Autotrader.com 2 weeks ago , there were 72 available in the US. Probably less than that by now. Get one while you can if you want one. Also be aware, that the B9 won't have the DSG trans either.

Just checked autotrader.com. They now list 50 new 2016 s4s with 6MT. They list 2 in NY state and 1 in MD. If you want one, I would call today. Could be worth your while to drive to get it. You can have it serviced anywhere. Perhaps your local dealer can make a swap, but you may need to pay a transport fee???

    Huh?

Edit: Educated myself as that was news to me. For anyone else that wasn't up to speed - NO DSG This line seems like a total load of BS though as there are plenty modded S4's with way more torque than the stock B9 will be putting down:
"“It is a conventional planetary transmission,” Rügheimer confirmed over the phone. He clarified that the hanging point was torque; the new S4 has too much of it for their existing dual-clutch transmission to handle."

When I traded for a '14 S4 manual I had to go for dealer stock to search for a 2016. That was 2 months ago - was told no more manuals being made for '16,

"The heart of the S models is a newly developed V6 engine with petrol direct injection and turbocharging. The 3.0 TFSI has an output of 260 kW (354 hp); its 500 Nm (368.8 lb‑ft) of torque is available across a wide range of speeds from 1,300 to 4,500 rpm. The engine outstrips its predecessor in terms of power and torque, while simultaneously offering significantly lower fuel consumption and weight."

Looks like the last Audi manual is the '16 S4. Looks like I'll be replacing my '10 with a '16 when the time comes. Or going over to the M3. I doubt even if they brought the RS4 back that it would have a manual transmission option. As much as I love the way Audi does things and their style, I don't know if I could part with a manual transmission.

And bear in mind that number gets smaller when you start considering colors & options you want, sport diff, MMI, etc. Move fast.

Exactly. Pickins are slim. Only 48 today. I wonder who will get the last one?
