Well, "new" installation...

The original high/low headlights on my 2010 Q5 finally gave up on me last year (well, one did, I assumed the other would be soon to follow). After a great deal of research, I purchased replacement bulbs from Kensun (HID Xenon Low Beam Headlight Replacement Bulbs by Kensun - D3S - 6000K), thinking I may actually be able to replace them myself. About two steps into the process (which I was learning via YouTube), I said NOPE (I am comfortable with a lot of "handy" things - including electrical in my home - but NOT dismantling what's under the hood of my car...), and scheduled the bulbs to be replaced by my local dealer, where I get all repairs done normally.

To be honest, something seemed off about the lights immediately, but by the time I decided something must be done, one of the bulbs was out again (in about 2 weeks). To Kensun's credit, I contacted them and they sent me replacement bulbs at no cost. I headed back to the dealer, where they charged me another $200+ dollars to replace the lights.

This time around, something DEFINITELY was up with the function of the lights - they are definitely both on and lit, but the "reach" of the lights is only a few feet - I turn on the fog lights or brights to boost my visibility. So clearly something is wrong, but I'm not real excited about going back to my dealer to get it looked at, since I'm pretty sure however they installed them has been wrong twice now. There's a fairly trustworthy repair shop down the road from me, but before I talk to them I wanted to get some input from those more knowledgable than me, since I often feel at a disadvantage as a woman who doesn't know as much about cars as I'd like.

So... a few specific questions:

1) Any reason to think this is the bulb itself as the problem? I read some pretty in depth reviews, on multiple sites, including reviews specific to Audi Q5s, and I'm about 99.9999% certain I did in fact order the correct bulb, and no one else reported this kind of problem. Both lights appear to be on and bright - to the extent that the light reaches...

2) Some reviewers on Amazon have indicated that due to some differences between OEM bulbs and these, they can be a bit tricky to install because there are more notches in these than the OEMs, so can easily be seated incorrectly - I suspect that this is the case - does that seem a reasonable potential diagnosis?

3) How much would you expect to pay someone to fix this issue? Over $200 seemed a bit absurd (and made me grateful I had purchased bulbs on my own), but I'm also a bit at their mercy since I can't do it, and don't know anyone else who could...

Thanks...
