    R8 Brakes

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I am getting ready to pull the trigger on some slightly used R8 brakes front and rear. Are they the same specs as the RS4? I have 19's so clearing shouldn't be a issue. Has anyone done this with the R8's? What else would I need to source for the switch?

    Thanks - Brett

No sir. I've had quite a lot of fun with my brakes, and from what I've learned, you're close, but no cigar. =)

front calipers are the same as RS4

The rears will not bolt onto the S4 hubs without a bit of modifications. CHECKERED did a writeup on it.

Oh, yeah, I should've just written the bit that matters for you rather than linking. The discs have a different offset and center bore.

That's been my understanding, on the fronts anyway.

But I'm sure the smart folks who told me will show up in this thread before long. =)

Just a heads up you really limit what kind of wheels you can run with massive calipers..... as i learned the hard way Rs4 owners can get away with decent lips still with their phat fenders but not so much on the b6/7 s4

Thanks Mr. Corey. I think I found some TTRS calipers with floaters.

Nothing brakes wise will straight up bolt to a B6/7. The front R8 calipers will bolt up to a B6/7 with the correct brackets from Apikol. http://www.apikol.com/index.php/8-pi...-brackets.html

I have R8 front calipers with those brackets and RS4 front rotors with JHM lightweight rotor rings on my S4 that I got used from a member here a long time ago.

I also have a used set of R8 rear brake calipers from a local R8 guy that couldn't sell them and they will not clear anything in the rear of a B6/7 without a custom made bracket. The OEM rear R8 brakes are huge too with four piston calipers and 356 mm rotors. For example, the Stoptech rear RS4 BBK uses 355 mm rotors and four piston calipers. The R8s use a separate parking brake caliper setup like the Stoptech rear RS4 BBK too.

This is very true too. I had to modify my R8 front brake calipers to clear all my wheels. Basically took a hand grinder with an aluminum grinding wheel to the rounded portion of the top sides of the caliper to make clearance. Also had to remove the front support bar.

Dam that's a set up right there! Looks like a good way to keep the inner part of the wheel clean. Not much room for road grime in there!
