    355mm Stoptech Brakes worth it?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I track my vehicle multiple times per summer and was looking into updgrading my brakes. In the meantime I did the standrad upgraded to track pads and high temp brake fluid etc. I have dedicated 18" rims for the track so the best I can do is get the 355mm Stoptech BBK. While the stoptech rotors are larger than my current OEM rotors, will adding the BBK be worth it? I assume the calipers play into the overall performance to some degree as well. Will there be a noticibal improvement in braking etc?

    Thanks!

BBKs typically have more pistons and larger rotors than stop set-ups. Both combined, add a greater level of stopping power and less brake fade over the course of your track day. If you're spending in excessive of $2-3K for it, only you can determine if the extra stopping power/less fade is worth the cost. Another option is looking to see if larger OEM calipers/rotors from another chassis will fit. I believe the Q5 will and it's a good alternative.

Too bad you can't run 380's cause there's a good deal on StopTech's in the classifieds

Shedding weight off the wheels with the full floating two piece rotors and lightweight aluminum calipers is a huge advantage to you, especially on the track. The 355mm kit is still a significant upgrade over stock when paired with the 6 piston caliper. These BBK's are fantastic performers on the street and track. We get a lot of positive feedback from our customers with them.

This is our best selling kit. Slotted with Red Calipers. if you do not see this for 2012+ fitment, type in 2011 they are the same fitment for all B8's.

What do most people do for the rear brakes when adding BBK? I assume and upgraded rotor of some sort with track pads. I had heard that maintaining the braking balance between the front and the rear can get tricky due to the fact we cant add BBK's to the rear of these vehicles.

Yes, if you are tracking the car, then it is totally worth it. But for anyone just driving on the street, even spiritedly, I would just stick with pads rotors lines and fluid. For me, especially having to run 19s in summer and 18s in winter, I don't believe my 18s will clear a BBK, maybe a 355 but not sure. So I am just upgrading everything else, since my car doesn't see track time.

In all honesty, if you plan on tracking the car ALOT go for it. But, if you're doing it just for aesthetic purposes..really think about it before shelling out that much money.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Good luck!

Running the 355mm kit will clear the stock 18's just fine. I added 3mm spacers to the front for a tad more clearance
