    First breakdown

Well, I've had my 09 2.0 P+ for a year now, and she left me stranded for the first time last night. No warning signs. Started up after my lunch break and it was missing badly. Limped it to work, shut it off and tried to restart. Now it won't start... Great... So I go back to work and call a tow truck.

I pulled the codes when I got home- RPM too low, Multiple random misfire, misfire codes for all cylinders, and crank/cam correlation incorrect.

So based on that, I am assuming crank or cam sensor, which makes sense with the symptoms. I took a multimeter to both sensor and I had difficulty getting a reading from the cam sensor, crank seems ok, but I'm not sure what the specs are on it. CarQuest had a cam sensor in stock for $15, so I started there... No luck. Currently waiting on crank sensor to get here in a couple hours.

Any other suggestions on what it could be, other than that, just in case? Based on the codes and symptoms, the crank sensor seems to fit the bill, but I wasn't sure if there was something I might be missing here.

Another possibility would be skipped timing chain throwing the timing off.

Well, I hope that's not it. It's only done 26k miles since the engine was rebuilt!

Dealer may not have changed the timing chain... I'm getting more and more worried about mine.

Be cautious, a 0016 fault code( crank/cam correlation) can very easily turn into a destroyed head and pistons.

More likely that your lower timing chain tensioner failed....nothing that a $5000 engine rebuild can't fix.

Very sorry to hear. It's a problem that I dread.

How many miles on the engine?

Damn that sucks! Was it rebuilt due to oil consumption issues? If so I'm sure that some timing chain parts are replaced during that.

It was for oil consumption, and according to the work order, the timing was not done then. There are no records for a chain/guides/tensioner.

^ This, and regardless you have a pretty strong case for the shop that did the rebuild to cover it... They should warranty their work for more than 26k miles.

Crown Audi did the work. Their warranty was 12 months or 12k miles. But it only covers parts that they replaced.... Not parts that they had to touch and remove, and did not find prudent to replace, even though it a a known issue and it's right f***ing there!
