    Extended Warranty feedback

I'm waiting for that right S4 to come along so I can contribute to these forums as an owner rather than asking a bunch of questions.

Having said that, I've held onto my last two vehicles (non-Audis) for 10 years. I average 8,000 to 10,000 miles a year and have had near flawless experience with both. I bought 10 year, 100,000 mile extended warranties and hardly used them. But I slept better at night. I plan to purchase an extended warranty when I purchase an S4 for all of the obvious mechanical reasons you can learn about on this forum. I also plan to own the car for 10 years.

For those of you that have purchased an S4 and the "Max Care" warranty from CarMax, has your experience been good with it? I'm concerned that they use a 3rd party provider that will nickel and dime you for everything and cause delays if the warranty folks feel like they have to come out and inspect and question everything when it's in the shop. (unlike Manufacturers' warranty companies that likely would just take care of it). But the deductible and premium options seem attractive at CarMax.

For those of you that have bought new vehicles through the Audi dealerships, about how much did you pay for the Audi extended warranty and have you been satisfied with the options and service?

You could buy a CPO 15 and get 6yrs from the in service date or 100k miles. Haven't messed with extended warranty before.

I guess you havent read his stuff. Pretty good reads. I've been thinking of doing an S63 or even a 997 TT through carmax and getting their warranty.

I know right? I have been trying to get my wife to like a new Honda Pilot, lol but after reading about how their warranty is I'm thinking used ML63 sounds better :)

My mother was thinking about trading in her CLS550 on something like an SQ5. Um, how about a Cayenne Turbo for the price of an SQ5 instead?! I honestly might have gone the used route instead of buying a new S4 if I knew about CarMax's warranty.

P.S. Which South-Florida Audi dealers do you like? She lives in Delray Beach.

Yeah, i'm thinking that as well. There's some really cool cars out there that I have traditionally shied away from. I'm waiting for them to start selling maserati's but no such luck yet, lol. I like Coral Springs so far. Another forum member, Sean, likes them too. I drove from PB area down to them go get my car. Braman moved locations and I've been pleased with their Audi operation now. I've had terrible experiences with their BMW service operation...really bad.

Thanks. I will let her know if she decides to buy a new SQ5, but she sounded interested when I told her about the Cayenne Turbo

I bought an Allstate-backed warranty when I bought my car. 3 year/36,000 mile exclusionary policy for $3,400. Covers everything aside from a short list of wear items. Honestly, though, from reading on here I feel like I might not be using it that much since the only real problems that occur with this car are the thermostat and the DSG in earlier years. I have a 6-speed, so if I do use it, it will probably be for the thermostat and that is nowhere near $3,400. But, oh well, it helps me sleep at night, too :)

If you're looking at an aftermarket warranty, any warranty for that matter, make sure you plan on staying stock the whole time or it's not worth it. Now day's I'm sure that's pretty obvious but, that was a lesson I had to learn the hard way years ago on a highly modded C32 AMG.

MaxCare here on a 2011 S5 Prestige Cab. Had a couple experiences with it. Fairly positive and relatively painless.

Brought the car into an Audi dealership as the car's electronics were restarting randomly from time to time. Handed the service manager the MaxCare card, and he took it from there. Got a loaded Q5 as a loaner, and was on my way. Few hours later got a call from the dealership, turns out it was Convinience Module that went out on me. $1,000 for the part and a few hours of labor. MaxCare covered almost all of it, pain free. They didn't cover my deductible (as expected) but, they only covered the hourly rate to a certain point. I think they cap at 150, and the rate was 160, so I paid 10 per hour out of pocket. Not sure about those numbers exactly from memory, but it was close to that. Still not bad to get the part covered fully and dealership service, loaner and all.

From my perspective, it was as if I had turned in my car with the factory warranty. Just as painless, dollars aside.

One of my bosses has the CarMax warranty thing on his CC. They give him a loaner, no questions asked, and fixed his issues. I think one was a bad coil pack and the other issue had something to do with steering. He bought it used, had a loaner car free. He is VERY happy with the CarMax thing.

Got a quote for fidelity platinum plan, as long as my car had less than 10 k miles get 7 year years from the time of purchase of warranty plan with max of 70 k miles for $2400 . As I do about 6 k miles per year I am extended. my warranty ( with limitations ) about 3 1/2 years . Will re evaluate numbers when I get close to 10k miles.

I'm really struggling with getting this extended warranty since the costs are so variable, not entirely sure what I'm getting, horror stories of people's claims being denied. I've got 4 different quotes, including the one from the non-audi dealer. Basically, he'll sell me the 2014 S4 with 33K miles for $36.8K and I can add the $2000 extended, which btw does not covers electronics. Total cost is $39K, which was his way of matching an Audi's dealer who's selling nearly the exact same car with 29K miles + CPO for $39K. The non-audi dealer is closer and has black optics package, 19" rims, and adaptive suspension, which the other car does not, so it seems like I'd be getting more for the price, except having to deal with adding my own extended warranty. I'm really leaning towards this car, but think it'll end up costing me more then the CPO. There's also some piece of mind getting a used S4 from an audi dealer. IDK. Someone make up my mind for me please

my car was frm carmax, has the maxcare warranty (and currently for sale)

the deductible for me is $50 at non-carmax places (audi dealerships) and 0$ if you bring it or trust it with a carmax service center.

the warranty has been fantastic all 1 time I used it (for PCV replacement) I will say that you do need to call the warranty on your own if you want the most coverage. And what I mean by that is I left my SA to call the warranty company and they told me they would only cover XXX but then I called them, and spoke to a different person who told me everything would be covered.

as far as ease of use? practically seamless, and the fact that audi service centers typically hand out loaners more frequently than a free sample booth at costco on a sunday. Maxcare has been great to me, if anything, my car has been very rock solid, and i have not had to use it often.

hope this helps. any further questions, ask away.
