Howdy! Showing off my new toy! 2003 RS6

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have been on this site for a bit lurking. I have owned a few Audis but was thinking of getting a C5 2.7T or maybe a 4.2 for a while so I was researching basic issues. Always lusted after an RS6 but they were always out of my price range. Few months ago a Mugello Blue RS6 turned up at an unbelievable price. I went to check it out and while it had a few blemishes I did see it had a lot of love and money into it as well. Slapped the cash on the desk, signed the papers and went to enjoy my new toy!

Pure bliss on the 100 mile drive home. Car drove and ran spectacular. Had an excellent sounding stereo in it. I was in heaven.
I own a small repair and performance shop so the next day first thing I did was get her in the air to see what was wrong. Car was too cheap. Get under it and see all kinds off goodness. Full Milltek resonated exhaust with their high flow cats, Bilstien PS9 coilovers, Hotchkins sway bars, Alcon 380mm brake kit and fresh control arms.
Was able to get all the cars records and it was a well loved and maintained car until the last owner. She maintained it but didn't love it as it was brought in 5 times for a rough ride. LOL Well the DRC is gone. Just had O2s done, EGTs, torque converter, axle shafts etc etc.

Wasn't until I filled the gas tank that I found an issue. The valve on the fuel tank was leaking<script id="gpt-impl-0.5512038232284939" src="http://partner.googleadservices.com/gpt/pubads_impl_78.js"></script>. I figured I would drop the exhaust, shaft, rear end and do a repair myself but saw there was an Audi recall on it and they would put a new gas tank in for free and give me a loaner while they did it. No brainer! So I brought it to my closest Audi store (BIG mistake) and let them have at it. Without going into too much detail (boring) they took a month, tried to tell me my lug nuts grew (seriously) and eventually got it fixed and said bring a tow truck to get it as the driveshaft is bent.......... Uh, didn't have one when brought there. Turns out when they dropped the rear they left the shaft hooked to the trans and it ovaled the CV. They also didn't hook my exhaust up because, and I quote, "Its a cheap POS aftermarket exhaust and has slip fit connectors and they are not ment to come apart." To which the service writer, service manager and two other techs nodded in agreement. I told them put the car down, tow truck is in route. Took great joy in blocking their service drive for the next 3 hours.
So avoid Audi North Austin like the plague.

So I get that fixed with the help of some friends and have just been enjoying the car. Got it tinted, put an 034 trans tune on it and ordered the hand held tuner with 3 tunes as what was in the car was ancient and just poorly done. The tune made it a whole new animal. I also plan on using the car for SQ competition so I have thoroughly sound deadened it and added some spectacular AD speakers to the already well done stereo which included a full DSP, DVD, NAV and some McIntosh 6 channel amps. Put a better sub in the custom enclosure on the rear passenger storage box and added a third amp dedicated to only it and am about to update the ancient Alpine deck with their current SQ version.

Overall I am in love with the car and see many many paychecks going to it. LOL

Very nice man. I am thinking of getting one of these. What do you think for comparison, stage 3 a6. Or RS6?

Yup, its Bill. LOL I forgot I was a member here until someone linked that S4 oil change story. I just did mine yesterday, don't care it was $100 in parts. No WAY anyone else ever works on this car again. :)

And I had a couple 2.7T cars, one being an S4. Great cars and make great power when you go up in the power stages BUT I would pick the RS6 any day of the week. Just a different beast. Plus with the wider body and longer nose I just prefer the style over the standard C5.

Maintenance on the other hand is nucking futs. How to change the oil filter without making a huge mess is a little beyond me. Changing front O2s require engine removal. Plugs are every 20k and timing belt every 35k.
That being said it is the best car I have ever owned in my life. And I have owned a crap ton of cars. LOL

Only thing missing is a dual clutch or manual transmission but either way that is like every c5 owners dream, a bi turbo v8 rs6. Bad ass car and a rare car too.

On changing the oil filter. I never had an issue if I took the oil cap off first and let the oil drain back from the oil filter housing. if you dont the oil stays up in the housing and runs out like crazy if you pull the filter first. P.S. LOVE the car!

Thanks. And I did take the cap off and let the drain go for an hour until not a drop came out. Pulled the Mann filter and splatter city. LOL
Wish the car had a DSG. Don't want a stick but a DSG would rock. Seen many do the manual conversion but I am waiting for someone to figure out how to put a DSG in one first. :D

What a freakin' gorgeous ride. Man oh man. If I had dollars upon dollars, I'd be after one and get an 01E swap done and then never know which car to drive. =D

Loving that blue. And I'm sure it sounds monstrous as well. Do us a favor and throw a GoPro on the rear bumper some time.

LOL, I have to do that some time. I have never had this happen before and thought it was quite humorous. Yesterday I came home and my neighbors from both sides as well as across the street were all next door just staring at the car as I was pulling in. Age range from 35-75. They all came over to tell me how bad ass the car sounds. Their words: Its so deep and exotic sounding but not loud and obnoxious! I love coming out when you leave for work in the morning. Wish all cars sounded like that.

    Me: *shock face*

Never heard anyone say that to me before. LOL

I've only had manuals but id have to agree with you, with auto trans technology and the amount of power cars are making nowadays it would suit that car quite well.

I had a Mugello RS6 a few years back. Thinking about getting back into on or possibly a newer style A6/S6. Looks like you got a great example with some quality modifications on it!

You need to join rs6.com if you haven't already. That's the best resource out there.

When I had mine I had the joy of doing timing, brakes, transmission, exhaust, tuning, blah blah blah. Spent 15k in maintaining it in less then 2 years on it.

Just hope the secondary water pump or vacuum pump have been replaced. That's a fun one. Ask me how I know!

I had forgotten to update this thread. After the new tune it did 443hp and 462tq at the wheels. Tune stays nice and fat all the way till redline. But I want moar!!!

So I went in depth with my next tuner on goals and spoke to some trans places today to see what an auto can really handle and it seems my plans will not be met. Gonna have to settle on 600ish awhp if I wish to remain auto and I do wish to remain auto. At least it seems attainable with bigger fuel pumps and injectors plus doing all the charge cooling mods with meth on pump gas. As long as I am not doing drag strip launches it seems that a built trans will probably hold that power number.
I love the car to death though and dont want to get rid of it so I will be content with those numbers. Maybe down the road I will be more willing to put a stick in it and shoot for another 100 horses but for now i have come to terms with what is feasible. Yeah a CTSV can make more power easier but my club has 6 of them and I like to be different. LOL

But because i love looking at her I figured I would try some HDR shots. Just love to look at this car.

Thanks all! I wanted a Mugello Blue RS6 with ebony interior for 13 years. It was always my super sedan of choice. I appreciate the compliments.
Since I am a Modular specialist and had so many Mustangs all the people in my Mustang communities call it a damn Passat. LOL

So I got bored at work and did a thing today. I really wanted some clear corner headlights but the widebody ones with HIDs are just freakin nuts at $3000 a pair. Saw a couple threads about how to remove them without peeling the headlights apart which is something I really didnt want to do for fear of cracking my relatively nice lenses and I didnt want moisture issues as I have never been able to properly reseal a headlight. Dunno why. I can epoxy a screwdriver to my hand just fine. LOL I also didnt want to drill a hole to break the tab on them as i would still have a hole to seal. So I went at it with my arsenal of tools and was able to grab it through the hole and snap it in half. I then used small cutters and broke off one small bit after another until there was no more amber. :D

Now I was planning on ordering a pair of chrome 3457A bulbs for it. They are just chrome until they illuminate and then they are blood orange. Since I have to order them I just slapped a pair of 3157 clears that I keep in stock. Well I noticed when I got home that they blend in perfectly when off but they appear to illuminate with a yellow tint. More so when flashing. Being tail/brake lights they are bright when they flash which I kinda like since nobody ever seems to pay attention to your signals anyway. LOL
I may just keep them. :)

I also lucked out yesterday. I had noticed its been about 17k since the plugs were changed and my tuner says 15k on a modded RS6 is when they should be done and that they need to be at .026 instead of .032. Well nobody in town had the NGKs in stock but one of my vendors said he had a special deal he could do me on Denso plugs. So I looked it up and it seems many run the Denso TT Double Platinum plugs and they perform just like stock. Knowing I get a healthy discount at that vendor I figured more off was a bonus so I just said send me 8 of them without asking price. When they arrived and i saw the bill I had to call him to make sure he didnt screw up. Nope, just a thanks for all my business. So I tuned it up for $7.42! LOL
Glad I did it too because whoever did the last set was very limp wristed. I do several tune-ups a week. I know how much force needs to be exerted to break a plug loose. Well the first three on the passenger side didnt need a wrench. Took a little force on 2 of them but I unscrewed them like I was using a screwdriver. One of them was so loose that I thought I just wasnt getting the socket on it. Cant believe it didnt throw it out of the head like a Ford would. The remaining 5 I didnt have to grab my spark plug ratchet by the handle, just twisted it from the head and they all slipped right out. This is a spark plug ratchet for those that didnt realize there is a difference:

So I gapped the Densos to .026 and installed them to proper spec. Great thing is that got rid of the cold start exhaust leak I would hear for 2-3 seconds but could never find because it stopped so quickly. Was that damn loose plug. Also helped get rid of the slight boost fluctuation when at half throttle and pushing 18psi. Argh. Thats why only I am allowed to touch my car. LOL
Old plugs didnt look too bad and were gapped at .028 so at least they knew to tighten the gap for the higher boost. The darker one is the one that was loose in its hole.

And yes, I like Mustangs. I work on lots of Fords so i have a lot of Ford car stuff. LOL

Great job on the clear corner mod. I just did it myself but removed the entire lense. They come off a lot easier than you would think. I bought new buytl glue to reattach the lense and laid it on thick to prevent moisture issues. I went w/ chrome signals but have to say your signal bulbs look almost clear in those pic's. It cleans up so nice w/ the clear corner and a polish of the lenses.

Dang, I havent been keeping up here. So updating all this I have switched to using BND Quantum Blue oil and ACES IV fuel additive and those two things made a big change. Car is now dead silent at startup and gets another 2 MPG. I am also now running my 100 octane tune due to the ACES IV without any issue. Car got even more fun and there are many brand new highly modded Mustang and Camaro owners that are upset. lol
I also scored a NIB set of Hella clear tails. I wanted smoked so I has them tinted with light film to see just how dark I want to spray them. Think I found what I like. I also removed the ambers and did the super bright backups. After that I sent out my wheels for a complete refurb and while they were off gave the old Alcons a good cleaning. I am going to sand off the discolored anodize or paint them silver on the rotors hats after I wear out these pads and order new rotor rings. AAlso gave it another detail before the lights and wheels were done. Gotta redo it tomorrow as shes filthy right now! lol

Hmm, most of my spark plugs were loose too after about 25k miles on them, strange.

Very nice car, congrats. "Standard" V8 A6's and S6's are the same body dimensions as the rs6, with the widebody and longer nose, FWIW.

Good luck with it and keep us posted.

I have the recall to be service on my S6 but no signs or scent of gas leakage, should I go send it in for the recall or is it safer to avoid it until it's an issue?
