    Intake Install Help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Got my AWE S Flo all ready to install and I can't even get the breather hose off the stock intake! Am I missing something (besides lack of mechanics skills)? I swear I couldn't even get it to budge! And I thought this would be "easy". Any tips?

To further elaborate, there's a "ring" kinda of thing right where it connects to the airbox. You need to squeeze that ring and it'll come right off.

Yep. Very easy as long as you do what Schrim says!

No we were talking about step 12-13 that's the breather hose. \

The line you are talking about was a PITA for me too. I ended up cutting it and adding an extension because it was too short anyway for my roc euro intake.

Ahhh ok ok. Yeah...I'm stuck. I can't get the vacuum line to even budge off the barb. Pulling, twisting doesn't seem to do anything.

Yeah its probably crusted on there. I cut mine, got a plastic extension piece, two clamps, and more line from auto store.

Maybe try taking a small flat head and see if you can get in under the hose to break the seal.

I am glad to read that I am not the only one who had this issue!

I am actually a rock climber (or was a rock climber until the kid arrived ) and have pretty strong hands; getting the vacuum line off the barb was a total bitch. I honestly thought I was going to break it and/or doing it wrong, so I PM'd SteveYem since it was a weekend.

I ended up mixing a highly diluted solution of dish soap and water, slightly prying the hose back with a small screwdriver, and adding a drop of the solution to the hose/barb connection to lube it up a little. That helped get it off and the residual solution dried quickly since it was a really hot summer day.

My car only had ~3k miles on it.

I am not sure if this would help, but I wonder if lightly warming up the hose with a hair dryer would loosen it up a little?

This makes me feel slightly better that I'm not the only person who had/is having a hard time. The instructions just say "pull off the hose from the barb"...like it's the easiest thing in the world. Maybe I'll try to break the seal with a small screwdriver.

Well I finally got it off! Then I accidentally broke the top of the air box lid. This is not my day. Anyone know if you can just buy the top portion of the stock air box assembly....the part that attaches to the filter.

Anyone have a stock air box they wanna sell me? I actually just need the top portion.

That vacuum hose came off pretty easily when I did mine. But, I installed my intake right after I got home from work one day. Engine bay was stupid hot. Probably should have waited but I was too excited as it had come in that day. Sounds like maybe I avoided a problem.

No help on the replacement parts, but for future reference you do not have to disassemble the air box; you can pop it out in one piece.

That is why I was thinking that warming it up with a hair dryer could help. My engine was cold when I installed my intake.

Ah this. I had 15k and did the install in the morning before driving.

Yes mine was stuck on as well. I used a mini electronics screw driver and "peeled" the hose back from the fitting about a quarter an inch in, then just slowly worked it back and forth it finally slid out. Kinda like sex when i was a virgin.

    Sorry, inner voice coming out...

That's exactly what I did. Just used the tiny screwdriver to help break the seal. Then I was able to slowly work the hose off the barb. They should really include that in the directions!

Don't you hate it when you try to do a 'fun easy modification' yet it ends up being a complete PITA, takes forever, and you end up breaking something?

It's like the big repairs I don't want to do are always easier than the smaller mods I look forward to. I swear its Murphy's Law or something.

This is usually always the case for some reason. A simple 20 min job turns into hours of frustration. Then it just falls into place at the end.

I did the same thing without even thinking about it. This doesn't need to be in the instructions, its more of a common sense thing. If you cant figure that out, box up the intake and send it back for refund.

Or having a shop do the install is a little less dramatic then returning it haha.

So I finally got a replacement air box lid after breaking mine and got the intake installed. Here is a pic. I was wondering if anyone else's AWE tube doesn't fully go on the hose collar near the air box. The metal tabs kinda get in the way but should the tube go all the way and touch the sides of the metal tabs? It's secure how it is now but I noticed there is a small gap in that area... Here is a pic...
