Can I go APR Stage 1 to GIAC Stage 2?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The APR dealer in town refuses to install the JHM pulley while installing the APR Stage 2 pulley. So now I have a problem because i don't want to pay to have the car cracked open twice, and the belt removed twice. Has anyone gone from APR Stage 1 software to GIAC Stage 2 software/pulley? Would i basically have GIAC software after the Stage 2 install?

You want to run both the JHM and APR pulley? Isn't that a bad idea since the JHM pulley is suppose to do, @ the crank, to what the APR pulley already does at the supercharger? That would likely push the supercharger beyond it's limits of efficiency and cause long term problems

**note there are two pulley's the light weight and the over sized, which one are you trying to install? It looks like from the description both are terrible to use if you are using the APR pulley from their description, it's one or the other...

Yeah + GIAC is having their holiday sale. But like Rudy said get the LWCP, not overdrive pulley.

well just to be clear, if you go Stage II, whether GIAC or APR (or other brand) for the tune

    hardware wise you can :

    replace the supercharger pulley
    OR / and = bad
    replace the crank pulley

Our Overdrive Pulley replaces your OEM crank pulley, drops the overall weight of your 3.0T's rotating assembly, and upgrades you to stage 2 pulley ratios - all without changing the pulley on your supercharger!
The APR dealer was in the right, and said the right thing that they won't install both pulley's

I think you're getting hung up on a detail in the question. In hindsight i shouldn't have even mentioned the pulley or the shop. I'm not interested in an opinion on what's safe. I'm also not interested in debating whether the shop should do the work. I'm just interested in knowing what happens when switching from APR Stage 1 to GIAC Stage 2. Has anyone done it? Do i have to pay for GIAC Stages 1 & 2, or just pay for Stage 2?

The thing is only cost. GIAC won't "stack" with the APR tune. If you go GIAC Stage 2, it will be GIAC only, the APR software will be overwritten. As to the cost, I don't believe GIAC has a promo discount for coming from APR Stage 1, so you're looking at full price to go Stage 2 unless I missed something.

You can switch without issue. It's just wasting extra money. You've already paid for an APR software license and any performance advantage with GIAC over APR is negligible. Doesn't make sense, IMO. Your last question is a bit confusing. You'd pay for stage 2, which is for the software and pulley kit.

Find another shop who is willing to install the pulley. Sounds like your shop is being stubborn for no reason.

I think this is a good idea. Just have another shop install both pulleys, then go back and have the first shop just flash the ECU.

I think you are confused. I said stage 2 with the light weight crank pulley is fine, but should avoid the lightweight overdrive pulley.

If you have concerns talk to @AudiStealth. He is stage2 w/ LWCP. No issues.

Yeah Colby you would hate it if your car made that much additional power using both the od pulley and the smaller s/c pulley. AVOID!

FWIW, for the most part, without a software change, boost levels will be higher than our targeted values, and as such, the ECU will open the bypass valve and bypass boost.

GIAC should be able to write over top of our software, just as if it were stock. Alternatively, you can always flash the ECU back to stock at an APR dealer before flashing GIAC software if that's their preference.

Why do you want to switch from Apr?
If its for customer service then maybe? Or closer to gaic dealer.
But for performance aspect there pretty much the same..I am very happy with my stage2t,I'm also running duel pulley setup (but not reaping the benefits yet) just hoping Apr will release the tune for that soon! Then it might be a different game.

Also I'm sure there's someone on this forum that would swap out the pulley for you much cheaper than the shop would charge you..If I were closer I'd help you out!

It's only a couple hours even if it's done twice, so I think you'd be cheaper upgrading then starting from scratch.
