    Rear Brake Rotors and Pads

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It is time to replace my rear rotors and pads. I went ahead and ordered a rotor and pad kit from partsgeek: http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...rotor_kit.html

Since the rotors are slotted and cross drilled, will it affect my braking or noise at all? One of my buddies did this exact same thing to his '99 a4 wagon and said he didnt get the same braking ability and it was also a very noisy application.

Should I send my kit back and order the solid rotors and standard pads or keep this kit and install as an upgrade?

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

My experiences with slotted rotors have been that they cause brake pedal pulsation. IMO the drilled and slotted offer no real in breaking ability

Agreed. I had them on an Acura I owned way back when. They drove me nuts. Went back to stock rotors.

Drilled and/or slotted rotors don't really offer any advantage on the street, they're for looks only. Also slotted rotors tend to introduce a pulsation in the pedal.

Thank you all for the feedback! I will be sending this kit back and order the stock rotors and pads.

    Cheers!

If you do not mind braking dust, stock pad is fine. If you do, like me, may consider a pair of ceramic pads.

Ugh. But I like looks of slotted rotors ^_^

I assume the slot design has some difference in this?

The textar pads have some bite.. Pagid is good too.

When I changed my front brake pads for the first time I got the akebono ceramic pads and wow I was disappointed. So much loss in braking ability over stock. But I've read on the zine alot of people love them..

I have the exact same brake kit, I have absolutely no issues with them after 6 months of driving with them. The pads give off hardly any dust, no noise, and they bite just as good or better than oem pads, plus the rotors are coated so they will not rust in the rain like most rotors. My only problem was that the front rotors didn't have a little screw hole to put in to keep the rotors from turning when you're putting the wheels back on, but that's no problem you just might have to wiggle it a little bit. It's not like you'll be doing pit stops with quick tire changes. I'd keep the kit if I were you, it's a great deal, and they look nice

It mostly just changes the pedal effort -> stopping power. You've got to use more pedal and it's much more progressive. Some people like it some don't. I personally hate "bitey" pads. Drives me nuts in traffic which is 90% of my driving these days.

Bite usually refers to initial bite. Have never encountered a performance pad with more bite than OEM. The bite of OEM pads is annoying, especially at low speeds. The rotor braking surface is not coated. Little screw = rotor retaining screw.

They're ceramic pads so it takes a few stops to warm them up, they stop with very little effort for the first few stops, it's insane, it's almost too hard but it just takes some warming up and they are perfect. And yes the rotor surface was coated, it just wears off when you break them in, so the outer edge is still coated=no rust
