I'm looking to purchase apr stage 1 for my B8. I have no mods on my car already other than coilovers which isn't mud of a mod I think. I'm wondering if I need to do anything else to my car in order for stage 1 to work or run better on my car. I've also read that you need a certified tech to put the chip into your car. Should I also wait for sales? I've seen that they go on sale quite a lot. Thank you and sorry if I posted this in the wrong area.

You can just get the Stage 1 tune with no supporting mods, no problem. If anything, consider installing an AFE pro dry S air filter, silicon turbo inlet pipe and a boost gauge. You need to get it done at a certified APR dealer (there are other tunes you can get too like GIAC, REVO, UNITRONIC but APR seems to be the most popular for our platform although they are all fine). I'm not sure if APR does a holiday sale but they definitely do a spring one where you can get 4 files for the price of one (91/93/stock/100 octane for example). Personally I just run the 93 tune, got it done for a little over $500 and it's worth every penny.

I would also consider doing R8 coil packs.

Sure you could add the red coils but they are really the same, most people just add them when the old ones are on their way out as they look better.

I forgot to add that you need to re-gap your plugs, just ask the APR dealer about it but I believe it's .28 for APR stage 1.

Did you ever get a tune? How many of you tuned your ride before the warrantly expired? I'm seriously considering going with a tune and have no other planned engine related mods other than the AFE Pro S drop in I have now. I may go APR stage 1. Are you guys happy with just the Stage 1 tune? The data seems impressive with ~30-55 hp and 50-60ft/lbs increasess on 91-93 octane.

I've had my APR stage 1 for almost a month and I like it a lot. I only have 5,000 miles on my car so I'm definitely still under warranty. The tuner I went to offered a one time labor fee for unlimited reflashes so I got that so I can go back to stock before any visits to Audi.

I think as soon as I'm out of warranty I'll go stage 2. I'm already itching for more power.

Thanks Todd. Wow you drive your car less than I drive mine. I've got a '15 with just a hair over 5k and love it so far but it could use a bit more get up and go...

Stupid question - if the APR dealer reflashes to stock before visiting your Audi dealer, they have no way of telling you were running a tune? Therefore no TD1 issues?

When the dealer sees multiple re-flashes on your car after a while they might assume tune, so I've heard.
