2016 A7 being sold as new with 268 miles on the odometer?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I haven't purchased a new car in almost a decade, so I forget what typically constitutes "delivery miles."

Is 268 miles on a new A7 a lot, relatively speaking?

This is the car I'm going to be purchasing or thinking very heavily about getting, possibly tomorrow. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Ive delivered cars that have 2000 miles on the odometer and still considered new. Just at a discounted rate because of the miles. Technically, if a car hasnt been titled, its new no matter what mileage it has.

I wouldn't really worry about it. It's more than I personally would like but if you like the car don't let it stop you. Just been on a few test drives it seems or it was a dealer trade.

Wow, that's a lot. Yeah I asked if the car was ever titled and he said no.

One factor that I think may apply in my situation is that dealer pictures of the car showed a March 2015 date on the cluster (not sure if showing that date was a good thing now), which means it's been sitting on the lot for at least nine months. Assuming it gets test-driven once a week for five miles, that's roughly 180 miles.

Should I be concerned it's been sitting on the lot for that long?

Might be the reason they offered it to me below invoice.

I bought a B8 Passat new back in 1998 that had a little under 200 miles on the odometer. A combination of test drives and eventual transport to the dealership where I ultimately purchased it (they drove it approximately 100 miles or so from one dealer to the other instead of shipping it) accounted for those miles. I'd get some additional money knocked off. 268 miles would get you from DC to NYC with about 30 miles to spare.

I'd start looking for more money off since its been sitting that long. You shouldn't have any problem getting money off. Just keep pointing out that it's been sitting for 9 months and you're the only one interested in buying. I bet they want to get rid of that thing ASAP since its been so long in inventory. You should be able to get a nice deal on it. I looked at the pics and it looks great. I wouldn't be concerned with it sitting at all.

That's the first thing came to my mind that the car OP is considering must have sit on the lot for so long and been through many test drives. I would try to push for more discount as well but a bit of miles wouldn't concern me much. I bought mine CPO with 7K miles on odometer and have not seen any issue at all and being an RS7, it could have been driven hard by the prior owner too.

    Frenetic,

I also saw your other post. If this car has been on the dealer's lot for nine months and it is optioned in a manner that is not attractive to most of the dealer's customers, he should be willing to make you a *very* attractive deal on it. Dealers often get allocated cars that are tough sells for them; they usually try to trade them to another dealer who can sell them more easily.

If this is the right car for you, you got lucky. Make a low, but fair, offer; then be prepared to walk away when the dealer says no. My guess is that you will not have to walk very far.

Don't have an A7, but FWIW my 2016 S4 came with 47 miles brand new and 3 years ago the old lady's Mercedes C300 came with 16 miles brand new as well.

    Thanks for the tips!

A bit nervous. I haven't purchased a car in ten years and I honestly hate being in dealerships.

I figured it's time to get myself something nice that I will enjoy and indeed, the level of options--considering what that "base" car has to offer versus what I have now--suits me just fine. Of course, I won't let that show.

In Australia new cars have from 10km (6miles) to 15kms (9miles). With the amount if miles on your car we would almost treat that as a dealer demo.

My car came with 7 miles. Depends on how you define NEW. A new car to me is one that was ordered or has not been a test drive mule. Any thing less is not new in my book. You should be offered enough of a discount for the mileage. IMHO. Good luck with your negotiations.

My S6 came with 20 miles. I paid $900 extra to have it trucked rather than driven from the preparation dock a couple hundred miles away..

This! Unless you are chomping at the bit and seem really anxious to buy the car, you hold all the cards. Good luck today if you go to the dealer!!

If it was used as a Demo, and for test drives, I too would request an additional discount.
