Input on adding a spacer to static suspension for allroads

    Hi guys,

I was having a conversation with a friend during his planning to switch to A6 suspension from the air susp. He didn't like how low the car was going to sit by using my allroad with stock A6 springs for comparison. He is essentially looking to machine pucks to sit between the springs and the hat to raise the car an additional 1.5". He drives with the car at a level 2 typically.

Has anyone done something like this in the past? My thought was to put the puck above the hat, but that was fairly uneducated aside from keeping the angles as close to stock as possible.

    Thoughts?

    Mike

I know the manufacture KW has some rear spacers like this (post #21): http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...W-V3-Coilovers
As soon as the holidays are over, I will be running these exact spacers on my H&R coilovers. These allow more height, adjustability, etc.

well, the allroad has 1" spacers between both front and rear subframe and body of car, something A6 doesn't.

This changes effective distance of lower control arm bushing to shock mount by something close to that to accommodate for taller wheels allroad has. Since allroad is heavier, it will compress stock A6 static shocks more than A6 does so I would guess that around 1.5" would place it around where stock A6 would be in the front...

Back would require careful approach and a little bit of trial and error to get it right since there are large weight differences between A6 sedan and Allroad avant due to extra pounds a wagon end takes to construct and all that air suspension hardware in there - pump, tank, hoses etc. You would need extra spacing in there to not get reversed rake on the car when using shocks for lighter end from A6.

Thanks for your awesome input. I'll pass that along.

    I'll take a look at those KW's.

Good to know. I'll pass this along. I'm pretty happy with the stock parts with no real modifications but he likes to ride a little higher.
