I have searched and read the threads on oil here on the forums. The place I am going to offers 5w30 Castrol Syntec Edge or 5w40 Synth Redline. Which of these do you all recommend for the normal 10k interval? The car will be mostly daily, with some getting on it around town and on back roads.

Lets not condemn all Valvoline or like oil change centers for the severe problem created by one in Florida. But you never know who or what the experience level of the tech is when you go there. I guess since I have a 6MT, they would have a problem draining my DSG fluid by mistake! BTW, I uses either Mobil 1 European car formula 5-40 or Valvoline Syn Power 0-40

Hell no, I read that thread... It's a local performance shop.

    HAHA!

I use M1 0W-40 now, but did use the Castrol until my warranty was up.

I have used Castrol 5w-40 full synthetic - I forget exactly which "brand" (i.e. Syntec, Edge, SPT etc) but I know it meets the Volkswagen 502.00 which is required by Audi.
Currently I am using Mobil 1 0w-40 full synthetic which also meets VW 502.00.

    Does the 5w 40 vs 5w 30 make a difference?

Not really, but 40 would be preferred in the summer.

I use Motul for the 5k intervals between dealership visits, I believe they use Castrol Syntec.

Change it every 5000 miles....10,000 is too long. I use Mobile-1 0w-40, $26 at Walmart for 5 qt jug.
