    winterizing my audi

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have owned my car for a couple of months and I love it. but I recently moved back up north(Syracuse,NY). I know the winters up here can be pretty brutal, with snow , ice and sub zero temps. I'm looking for some tips to keep car running in tip top shape, and looking decent.

I already washed clay barred. and did 3 coats of wax, and a extra coats where debris can fly up.
I check the battery and everything make sure that its good working order.
I need to do a oil change soon. Should i use 0w-40 or the normal 5w-40. temps can get below 0 up here.
I know that i will need to get a set of snow tires, which i plan to leave on my 17" wheels. Im looking for recommendations
I have a new set of wiper blades, and topped off with rain x orange washer fluid

any other recommendations would be fantastic

As you said, just a set of winter tires (Gislaved are good, and affordable in 17") and you're good to go. The car is a winter beast.

^Holy cow if you get those tires you probably will be able to climb trees! Next to the Happiklita's some of the best I have ever driven on.

^M1 0W-40 is what I use all year. It's $25 for a 5 quart jug at Wal-Mart, so if you have a consumption issue, just keep an extra jug around for cheap top offs.

Be careful with the Rain-x wiper fluid, it can kill the sensor (it did on mine).

Start timing yourself on how fast you can get in the car, start it and turn off ESC

This year I changed up my 17" mich x-1ce 3 to 18" blizzak lm-32's and love these lm's.

Yeah, the M1 0W40 certainly is an all season/all-climate oil...and a very good product.

Yes, get rid of the Rain-x fluid. That has caused a good number of failures.

^This. I've also had it stain the cowl beneath the windshield.

Honestly I like the rain-x stuff more than the normal blue washer fluid you can get at gas stations but ultimately I think it can clog the system in addition to killing the sensor. You should be ok if you switch back to the normal stuff after this tank.

I stopped using Rain X because I found it smeers the windshield and leaves a lot of film where others don't. If you clean the windshield well (I use Stoner's Invisible Glass) and use another, likely cheaper, washer fluid, you'll be good to go.
