    ABS Issue

All, looking for any advice or ideas if anyone has has the same issue. I ran a VAG scan and it indicated a front right wheel speed sensor short to ground+. i ordered a replacement sensor and while waiting for it I decided to remove and clean the old one up some and clean the electrical connectors and the sensor hole. I scanned it again and then cleared all the codes and it was fine for a few days. It kept coming on intermittently and I finally replaced it with the new one and scanned and cleared the codes again. Drove the car and a few miles later the ABS light and orange warning triangle come right back on. Scanned again and the exact same code front right wheel speed sensor.

Am I missing something or has anyone else had a similar issue and what was your fix? It's just very annoying having any lights on the dash and is driving me crazy.

    Thanks guys.

While I understand that can be a result, I have also seen others state on here that even having that fixed or replaced did not solve the issue. Just do not want to keep throwing wasted money at parts that have nothing wrong with them in the first place. I suspect the wheel sensor was fine to begin with but not sure even VAGOM can tell if it is the sensor or module causing the issue. VAG scan indicated one thing and it was not that so even scanning and knowing the so called issue is not always accurate. These forums sometimes help beat the bushes and someone may know what the issue could be or maybe stumbled on a fix like I am seeking. ABS module repair is next but again, that may not be the issue either apparently. Just like some getting the timing service completed and still gets the rattle. I would be pissed spending that kind of money to fix it and it still rattle like it did beforehand. Thanks for your input though!

Could be a problem in the wiring to the sensor?

Just an update for anyone that comes across the thread, it ended up being a bad ABS module as expected. Had Cheap ABS (Matt) fix it for me and upon re-install everything is good to go now.

I seem to be having the same problem but this only happened to me once, however I've been getting the instrument panel brake light flash three times multiple times now is that related to the ABS? Also who's cheap abs (matt)? is that someone that sells the abs modules? thanks for the help.

ABS modules are outrageously expensive and I doubt you want to shell out for a new one. Sending you module to a company like modulemaster.com or cheap abs is a much better way to solve the issue. The brake light flash shouldn't be related to thee module. Does it affect your driving? I'd wait until your abs problem starts happening much more often before sending your module in.

Cheap ABS is a company in Kansas and Matt is the owner and the one that repairs your current module and sends it back to you. He basically repairs the failure prone components and installs redundant backups as well. Unless your module is not repairable he can fix them for roughly $150 and return it back to you fixed and ready to re-install. If you have basic mechanical skills you can remove the ABS control module fairly easily (only took me about 20 minutes to remove mine) and it takes about 5 to 7 days to have it repaired and back in your hands.

Most of the time these modules have connection failures that occur in the same place 95% of the time and is what he repairs and adds a backup for. Compared to dropping $500+ on a new module or alot more if you have a dealer replace, it is a great option.

Since I had mine fixed and put it back in and cleared the codes I have had no ABS issues at all.

Matt is a good guy and does excellent work so no worry there. Just google them and you will find the info you need or just ask.

Thanks guys for the response. The instrument panel brake light flashing doesn't affect the car it's just so random when it comes on I'm trying to figure out what causes it but there doesn't seem to be any consistent situation when it flashes and why does it only flash and beep 3 times?
And I would agree about waiting and see if the abs light will come on again hopefully it was just that one time.
Indy-s5 would you have a link to share on how your replaced the abs?
    Thanks.

Have you checked your brake fluid level?

The flashing and beeping 3 times are classic symptoms of low brake fluid.
While driving and shifting directions (however slightly) the centripetal force acting on the low brake fluid will cause it to shift relative to the reservoir and level sensor. This may cause the sensor to indicate a low level condition. This is why it appears random as well.

As others have suggested, your ABS module might be on its way out.
However, before jumping to the diagnosis that the ABS module is bad, check to see if it is something as simple as low fluid level.
If it is your "Brake" light and not the "ABS" light that flashes and beeps, I'll venture a guess and call it a low fluid level issue.

Here is a link to the website for Cheap ABS http://cheap-abs.com/vraudi.html

There is a link to the left side for ABS removal, it really is pretty easy and alot easier than it seems on this video. There are just 6 torx screws that hold the module onto the ABS pump that you need to remove and the electrical connector. Just be careful removing the connector as to not damage any of the pins, they don't just pull up and off, they have a swing retaining clip that pops it up as you open the clip and then it comes right off. The bottom 4 screws can be a pain to get out due to the location and tight fit but will come out without removing the wheel liner like Matt shows in the video (I did not drill any hole or remove the liner. I had a screw driver with a flexible arm that bends and just put a bit on it and was able to remove it in about 15 minutes. You can drive the car with it off but I would cover the pump really well and honestly would not drive it unless you have to. Truthfully if the module is bad it is already not working while on the car so driving it with it off is no different other than protecting the pump from moisture and junk from the road. It really is simple and if that is your problem this will fix it. Like the others have said check the fluid as well. Mine had the ABS light on and was clearly the module, either way Matt will tell if you the module is bad or not and if not you are only out the shipping to and from which is roughly $20, if it is bad he will fit it and you should be fine for roughly $150. Good luck.
