    RS4 Owners, I have a peculiar request

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have been looking for quite some time for an RS4 to purchase and my perfect example just so happens to be located in Canada. Before I even attempt this endeavor I was wondering if anyone could look on the inside of their hood or near the front radiator support for the Emissions Control Label. I want to be exactly sure of its location before I request the seller to locate his (if it exists). This is an absolutely necessity before I can even begin to think about crossing the border. Thanks so much in advance! I've attached a picture below of a sticker from another model to aid in your search.

P.S. If any of you RS4 owners on here have been thinking about selling your beast, Please feel free to PM me would be nice to keep my purchase stateside. Thanks again!

Canada RS4s are identical to US RS4s except their cluster -- you will have to replace the cluster to a US cluster before importing

the cluster doesn't need to be changed. Plenty of cars that come from Canada and still have Km/H and are running around here in the US.

you can't legally import the car without MPH on the speedometer...its part of the process

you have to replace the backing plate thing that actually lists the the speeds...and then it can be reprogrammed with the cluster tool

someone around here just did it, i'll see if I can drag up the thread

I'm fairly certain there is a smaller scale of MPH under the KMH. Similar that you guys have the KMH under the mph.

I know the newer cars don't have that since you can set the DIS to display speed in either measurements. Our older models should have dual measurements.

Exactly, cluster must show mph whether it's the main font or secondary font to kmh. You either have to replace cluster in Canada before bringing the car over the border or you could pay a deposit "bond" for the lack of a better word and bring it over the border without swapping cluster to mph. However, you have a certain period to get it swapped to mph and inspected. Then once inspected you get your deposit back.

Also, if cluster already has both kpm and mph, then you don't have to swap anything, you're good to go.

I did not take this into consideration, the biggest factor at least from my research was having this U.S. Code emissions sticker which is why I was attempting to verify its location.

unfortunately on the RS4s for whatever reason, they don't list MPH on the Canada KPH Speedos...so a swap is necessary

Luckily this car seems to have the U.S. Speedo at least from what I can tell.

This car was originally sold in the US and brought to Canada

I looked at it since I've been shopping for an rs4

It's history of misfires concerned me but otherwise looks solid

Feel free to pm me if you wanna talk about it more

^Odometer has both mph and kph. I figured it would. You're good to go sir

You probably already know this, but since it's Northern car, watch out for rust issues.

    Read my post above you

    I know this specific car

It's a US car not a CAD car

The CADs don't have MPH on their speedos

    True

I just wanted to make sure people didn't get the wrong impression about CAD RS4s. To import them, you DO need to swap clusters; this one is a special case because it's an American car and doesn't have to go through the same import process

Indeed! OP is going to go through a shortcut there which is a plus.

If this plays out, are you planning on driving it back? Would be one heck of a drive, but then again that's the most appropriate way to get to know your new beast

Yep. Overdue carbon cleaning/throttle body sensor going bad can do that as well.

To OP, if the current owner has warranty and the original clutch hasn't been changed in a while, have them do it. I was looking at a misano few years back and owner had some sort of extended warranty plan and they got clutch changed within that warranty at no additional cost. It was also in Canada, but originally registered here in the States. So a letter from Audi of NA was needed, but that's it.
