    TPMS Light wont go away

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey.. so i have a 08 A4 2.0T if that makes any difference...

But the light (!) has come on and it will not go away. I have taken it to 3 tire places and all of them assure me the tires have correct pressure (Even the spare in the trunk was checked)

I know how to use the dash menu and resent tire pressures and wheel replacement....

Whenever i reset the tire pressure light it goes away but then comes back after driving maybe 100-500 yards.

would this likely be tire pressure sensor fail... or something else?

Is there a way to just make it go away.

    Thanks,

Check all your tire pressures, then set the psi a bit lower on the menu. Example: tires @36psi, computer menu to trigger @30psi, or raise the threshold a bit higher.

Also, remember to check your spare tire pressure!

You can vagcom it out? does it basically disable that feature?

    I have checked the spare.

80sguy - how do you set the tire pressure to be lower?

does all the a4 version has the tpms?

I have the canadian version, and I never got the light. One of my tire got 22psi pressure, which is very low for continental extremecontact. I have no spare as well.

Yes. I run at 39-40psi and set the warning at 30psi.

never mind, I just figure out that tpms was an option and I probably don't have it.

I would assume to release tire pressure until the tires are at 30psi, then use the stalk to set that as new tire pressure. Then inflate tires to desired PSI

So I deflated the the tires (even the spare) set the pressure. Then refilled the tire pressure to required amount.... 2 minutes after driving the light came back on.... so guessing faulty sensor?

    This may help in troubleshooting:

    http://www.tirereview.com/tpms-diagnostic-strategies/

The issue will be in identifying which TMPS sensor has gone bad, especially if your car doesn't actually tell you which TMPS sensor is alarming. Remember it might not be "bad" it may just needs a new battery installed.

If you have or know of someone with VAGCOM, they may be able to help identify the bad TMPS sensor, or at least tell you if the TMPS receiver is good.

If its a bad TMPS sensor, then your going to have to visit the tyre shop as removal of the tyre is the only way to get access.

The battery is on the inside, so at a minimum you will have to press in the tire bead near it (without damaging the unit), to gain access.

Any good tire shop has a TPMS reader that they can place near each wheel and tell you the PSI above or below the set pressure. They can also tell you just by standing next to the wheel if the sensor is not sending a signal (either battery, or bad sensor) to the unit.

My suggestion is to either code it out with VAG-COM like others are saying, or go to a tire shop and have them diagnosis/resolve the issue.

Did you set the appropriate psi threshold on the obd so it can trigger?

The battery in the TPMS sensor is not replaceable. It's a sealed unit so when the battery fails (life expectancy is ~ 6 to 10 years), the whole sensor needs to be replaced.
The sensors work on 315mhz which a good tire shop should be able to easily read each sensor's signal/pressure reading.
A 315mhz type of TPMS sensor is quite common and was used on a number of various makes/models of cars including the 2003+ 350Z.

I just received 8 new TPMS sensors - 4 for my oem wheels where the batteries are beginning to fail and 4 for my winter wheels that never had any.

I've had 3 of the sensors removed from my wheels and regular valve stems put in. I intend on coding out the TPMS because it has always shown an error.

I need to do mine because my sensors are gone. It's been gone for almost a year now. Orange TPMS glowing on my dash. Get the annoying high pitch BEEEEEEEP every time I put the car in gear. Are they pretty easy? Can a regular tire shop install them?

You deleted/disabled a perfectly good system because you didn't want to replace the sensors?

I am trying to find out more details on the actual replacement process. Part of my search has found that the sensors may need to be programmed first. I'm not sure if that's a generic TPMS thing or if it's Audi specific. And I believe I may have read that they may need to be coded in via VCDS after that programming.
But a good tire shop who has a TPMS reader can determine which sensor has failed and what the tire pressure is on the serviceable ones.
