    REAR subframe bushings

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does anyone have a good way to check the condition of the rear sub-frame bushings without removing them? I'm chasing some clunking and spending too much money on things that don't fix it.

    Thanks

What's wrong? Are the bushes getting too big? I recommend removing the bushes and going with a simple flower bed, preferably filled with annuals. Much less overall maintenance, and the annuals will bring some nice color to the rear sub frame.

I already changed the rear diff mount to the ECS version. This actually made the problem worse as it has virtually no compliance. I also replaced the Tip trans mounts while I was at it. I've closely inspected the center driveshaft support, but I can't honestly see, or feel, anything wrong with it. I can't find anything wrong when the car is on the lift, so I'm trying to narrow it down without simply throwing parts at it.

You moved the center drive shaft around and it didn't wiggle or move at all?

It had about a 1/4 - 3/8" movement, but no rips, tears or other signs of failure. It was also clean and dry.

Does the subframe have to be removed to replace the bushings?

I would say yes, it probably does. You would likely need to press or cut them out.

I don't like that answer, can you give me a better one, lol.

I'm chasing a speed/torque specific vibration and it's driving me crazy trying to narrow it down.

Bugger that then. Not worth the hassle until I'm positive it's the bushings that are the real problem.

I have the 034 billet rear subframe bushings, it noticeably firms up the rear, which was surprising

Can you replace them with the subframe still in the car? What's the install on those like?

I got the subframe like that lol. Just dropping the rear subframe and disconnecting all associated components took me the better part of 2 days with a lift.

As it was described to me, you burn out the old bushing then cut/hack the rest of it out. Giant PITA apparently. Just lining up the subframe took the better part of an hr

I have a vibration that sounds identical to yours. I believe mine is a loose rear axle flange as I can move it in/out about a quarter inch with the rear of the car lifted.
So you might want to check that although I've never heard anyone else mention it as a common thing.

I'll be sure to check the flanges then. I'm looking onto a possible cv joint failing too.
