    Garage Opener Sending Unit Location

Had the ECS Tuning black mesh grille installed yesterday. Looks awesome! However, now my garage door opener does not work. MMI says "system not available". I've contacted the shop who did the install (a very reputable shop that does custom work on some very high end cars), they said they will make it right. However, I want to know what's going on so I know it was done.

Since the owners manual and MMI instructions state to point the opener remote at the rings on the grille for programming, I assumed the sending unit must be behind the rings. But I've looked at the back of the OEM grille and see nothing to indicate a sensor or send unit would have attached there. I poked around a bit online and seem to find references that the send unit is behind the bumper cover under the right headlight. Does anyone know if this is correct?

My thought is the guy just didn't reconnect it when he put the bumper cover back on. The park assist sensors are present and accounted for. Since this shop is a 90 minute drive for me, I am wondering if I should just take it to my dealer and eat the cost to save my time due to the distance.

For the S4's it is mounted behind the grill. When we install new grills most attach it to the crash bar. Most likely it's not connected, it's a black box about 4x4. Take your radiator shroud off and look down in there. Don't take it to the dealer for that. If it is connected check the fuse next.

All fixed. Shop did a FaceTime call with me when I got home from the office today. Removed plastic cover over radiator, the sending un it was in place, plug left dangling. Reconnected, works fine.

I have low mechanical skills and no tools, and a really bad back which severely limits my range of movement. So yes, I wanted them to walk me through it so I didn't get into a situation my body wouldn't allow me to finish, i.e. crawling under the car or something. Why I don't work on my cars. Washing my cars is painful, but for that I make the sacrifice :)

Understood. If I lived closer to ya Id help you wash your car. I'm a sucker for a clean car. Get a ceramic coating on it and washing it will be 10x easier for you. Just a thought.

I have coatings on both my cars. Yep, it does make it easier! And since I can't wax anymore, really helps. What really causes pain is getting down on the ground to do the wheels. I bought a mechanic's creeper hoping I could sit and do the wheels, but it really didn't help. So I add car washing to yard work as the stuff I do that makes my back surgeon cringe! Everything else I pay to have done. Degenerative disc sucks! lol
