Cool Audi Q5 3.0T... New Begining

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello everyone,

This is my first Audi and so far its been perfect! Before this I owned a Honda Prelude and a 2nd Gen Acura TSX but it's time to step outside JDM and join the euro group. Realistically I just wanted a bigger size vehicle that I could also enjoy driving around with good power. It's only been a week of having the car and I'm in love with it already. I got big plans for the Q5 and will be posting the changes I make! I'm new to the Audi/Euro world so any advice will be appreciated! First thing I'm going to do though is black out my grill, badges, roof rail, etc.
Basically all the chrome on the exterior of my white Q5. I'm still debating if I should badge delete the Q5 and 3.0t Badge... what do you guys think?

Pictures will be up soon when the weather clears up..... Vancouver isn't so sunny right now..

Welcome to AZ and congrats on your new ride. The only advice I can offer is read and then read some more. Tons of great information here and most folks are very helpful should you have any questions.

I'm personally a fan of a debadged rear end although I'm finding it difficult to part with my SQ5 badge. Maybe one of these days.

Thanks! I finding some great information on AZ, its pretty sweet. The only reason why I dont want to debadge the 3.0t is because so far I haven't seen a 3.0t on the street yet, there all 2.0t or 3.2tfsi so I kind of want to be one of the "rare" ones till I see more

I'm thinking of just keeping the 3.0t badge and blacking it out with the rings but it might look wierd without the q5 badge...

whatever floats your boat. I like to rep the q5 3.0t badges, but I always wonder what my car would look like with no rear badges or rings

    any mods planned?

Never remove the rings. It's sacrilegious.

It does look clean. It's funny that he removed the rings but not the SQ5 badge.

Question for you guys though. I personally love the start/stop feature but i don't know if it harms/wear and tear the engine. I read that the car is smart enough to only activate when the engine is warm or the right temperature for it to activate and not damage anything. is that true?

Yes correct. I don't use it tho, I feel like the car jumps when it restarts. Mercedes stop start is much smoother

I was reluctant to use S/S for the first ~1k miles or so, but then said F#ck it. I'd read enough on starter/flywheel life, rear-main bearing wear, etc and the things that have gone into making S/S a non-issue if done correctly that I generally leave it on when I'm commuting. Is there a noticeable mpg difference? Yes. Substantial? No. My guesstimate based on some experimenting is that on a slower-traffic commute week, keeping S/S active can take me from ~20 mpg with it off to ~21-21.5 with it on. That's highly dependent on your commute, of course.

If you have frequent, continuous stop and go, I doubt it's going to do much because the shut-offs are 1-2 seconds long. You never recover the extra fuel it takes to restart. That would drive me crazy too... but my work drive tends to have longer stops intermixed with 1/2 mile stretches of rolling along where I think it has the most impact.

Now, when I'm at the other extreme of my apparently bipolar driving style where max gas is the order of the day, S/S is switched off.

BTW, Dave, on what MB engine was that smooth stop start that you drove? My experience with their 2.0 was the opposite. I hated that POS loaner and S/S only made it worse.

I don't think I have this feature on my 2016 SQ5. By the sound of it, that's a good thing

Yeee well after you and dave confirming that it doesn't really wear and tear the engine i just left it on. My car honestly is pretty smooth when it jumps out of the S/S. I honestly don't think it really helps with gas to a point where its noticeable but it's a nice feeling to THINK it saves gas... HAHA

Really? That's weird i would think the SQ5 would have that option.. i guess since youre spending money on the top model there is really no point in "trying" to save gas...

You have to upload your pics to an image hosting site to get the url for your pic to post here. Photobucket or something like that.
