Question Gearbox Malfunction and........what was going on????

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have the A3 8v with APR ECU and TCU upgrades. Recently "Gearbox Malfunction, reverse gear is not possible" something like that came up like 3 times

Every time all I did was turn off the engine and then turn on again....and everything just like normal

I'm wondering what happened...........2 our of 3 times were like 5-20 minutes after short and aggressive driving.....

Hope Arin @ APR chimes in on this. I was about to get these upgrades, but now I'm spooked about the DSG flash...

this is what the B8 S4's DSG does when its on its way out. it did this with the stock dsg tune for the B8 S4s though. your case might be different. I was hoping the DSG would be more problem free on the A3/S3...

Flash back to stock asap and get it to the dealership. You do not want to drive this car like this long-term.

I had the dsg die on me twice on my stock s4 and the first time I barely avoided an accident with a bus behind me. Basically the car showed transmission fault keep driving, then 2 seconds later just stalls. There are so many dangerous scenarios you could get into with a car stalling.

    Good luck with the diagnostics.

You do realize this is a common enough problem with the stock DSG tune on other platforms right? Go check the B8 S4 forums and you'll find plenty of people that have encountered it. Trying to attribute it to APR without any kind of evidence is just dumb. We all know you don't like APR, it's pretty much the only thing you ever say here.

Agree. My s4 dsg started acting up before 50k miles but after warranty. I hope the s3 doesn't start having similar issues. The dsg repair in the s4 was like 10 grand.

If this was directed to me, I don't know why but there were a ton of DSG S4's that had similar problems with the mechatronics unit. Many were replaced under warranty but my car was out of warranty and Audi would not agree to service it out of warranty if it eventually failed. I swore I would never buy another Audi at the time because of it. 1.5 years later I was back. I'm really a man of my word I guess.

God dammit Audi give us a fucking 6 MT option in these cars. The DSG works SO well...when it works...but I would NEVER get a DSG car if I was planning on keeping it a while

ON THAT NOTE: Has anybody on any of these forums attempted to swap a Golf R 6 speed into an S3? If Audi doesn't eventually offer one, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody takes one out of a salvaged Golf R.

The S3 is offered in a 6MT in other countries. It is good, but has bad pedal position.
