I have had a new set of Morimoto HID in my car for about a month.

Got in the car after work and was greeted by my right dipped headlight warning :(

    Sure enough....it is out.

I swapped in one of my old bulbs (known good) and the light still does not come on.

Anyone e have any experience with this kind of problem and can point me in the right direction ?????

    Thanks all.

Hi, looks like the ballast went out. Try to swap Hid assembly from left to right side. Then you will be sure if the ballast is ok. There is only bulb and ballast. If it's going to light then you have answer, if not you will need to check connection.

Just went out and swapped the ballasts from left to right. the problem followed the ballasts (now Left (DS) bulb is out. So I am going to go with bad ballast.

I did some reading and it looks like new bulbs (mine are 2 months old) will kill old ballasts faster :( So I better get a set of ballasts as mine are both stock from 2004.

I found a resource on line for ballasts at a good price (OEM) , however I am having trouble making sense of the "legend" they give for VIN that can use this ballast with or without an adapter.

    here it is...

2002-2003 Audi A4 B6 (From VIN 8E-2-115 715 to 8E-3-281-970, adapter wiring harness required 8E0971671, see related products)
2003-2005 Audi A4 B6 (From VIN 8E-3-281-971, no harness required)

My A4 is a 2004 with VIN (last 11 digits) 8E34A044162 My best decryption tells me I am after the no harness required VIN and am GTG without a harness, I just want to confirm.

While I wait for new ballasts, is there any common fail point in these? I was considering opening up my bad basalt and looking for cold soldier joints or something like that.

Given you have a 2004, I think D1S bulbs from your other thread, odds are that you have the slim Valeo ballasts, LAD5GL. I would recommend replacing both at the same time, and there are several places you can get them from.

Yes they are in fact slim. I found them for 107 USD Any or your sources show them for less?
