Price seems pretty straight to me if that accident was repaired right. If you can get it for $30k I think you'd be in good shape.

Going to go look at an Audi A4 2011.

-It has 112K on the odometer.
-The engine was rebuilt by Audi so has about 25K on the engine (and i'm guessing oil consumption was fixed because of this).
-112K service was done by Audi.
-only 1K miles on the tires,
    -Sports Package (18" rims, etc)

    Asking $14.5K

The car seems to be in VERY nice condition. The engine rebuild sounds great, however what about the drive train/quattro reliability? I've read through the threads, and I don't see too many obvious issues. Am I missing anything?

I'm in the market for a Q5 and came across this listing.

    Private seller
    2013 Q5 Prestige 3.0T
    $31,900

    -45,500mi
    -Comfort package (has Milano leather)
    -CPO through 10-22-98 or 93,958mi

I plan on owning Q5 for at least 5 years or longer and plan to perform maintenance and repairs myself.

Any major maintenance cons for a 3.0T vs 2.0T? For example, I currently own an A4 B6 3.0 and requires replacing the timing belt every 75k.

    Thanks in advance!

Timing chain tensioner is the only thing to keep an eye on. Beyond that the drivetrain in these cars is solid.

That seems like a great price for a 3.0T Q5. You'd need to make sure the seller does whatever paperwork is needed to transfer the CPO warranty to you, though.

After checking the car fax, there was minor damage to the front of the car, I assume this will affect resale value in the future as well, any idea how much that kind of record would affect the KBB value currently?

I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger, they are willing to go down to 31,000 and help me save on some of the registration fees.

I've narrowed it down to 2 cars. Let me know what you guys think (sanity check please), they're both out of state so shipping is calculated into the price unfortunately. I also plan on selling the car in 3 years, so let me know what you think about value of the car in 3 years for these 2 options. I'll probably be putting 10-12k miles a year on the car. I've considered leasing, but nothing on the market is really doing it for me right now, so I'd rather treat this as a lease.

    Option 1:
$29,500 2013 Allroad Prestige with 25,000 Miles (Options include: Driver assist, 19" wheels)
$2,900 bumper to bumper warranty extension for another 3 years
    $500 shipping to CA

    Option 2:
$24,770 2014 Allroad Prestige with 79,000 Miles (Options include: Driver assist, sport steering wheel but not seats, painted trim, cosmetically seems to be in better shape)
$2,700 powertrain warranty for another 4 years
    $1,500 shipping to CA

Let me know what your thoughts are. Are these good deals? Should I keep looking?

First one seems like a better buy to me. You probably won't want the warranty, especially if you're going to mod it. They're generally reliable cars.

Are there any combinations of Prestige packages that are an either/or type deal? I'm looking for a manual transmission with the S-line packages as well as the Sport package, not sure if they come together regardless, as an option or not at all. Thanks in advance.

If you're looking for a true full S-line car, it will include the sport suspension and steering wheel and it will also have even better seats. So, full S-line would supersede the sport package. Both of these option groups were available with automatic and manual transmissions.

I believe full S-line was available on Prem+ and Prestige trim cars.

If you don't need the S-line seats and branding, it is also possible to buy a manual car with the "S-line appearance package" (bumpers and side blades) and the sport package to get the suspension, steering wheel, and sport seats. AFAIK the only difference between the full S-line and a car equipped like that would be the seats, but others can correct me if I'm wrong. I think I posted pictures of the S-line interior in my original post.

Edit: I didn't post a picture of S-line seats. They are sport seats but with alcantara centers.

Was there a difference from the 13 and 14 model?

I thought the 14 got a small HP bump and more features but I am not sure.

Thanks for the response! I guess I'll narrow my search even further to full S-line packaging. Is there any way to differentiate in the listing between the two? Is the S-line appearance package listed as such, whereas the full S-line package listed as a regular S-line package?

Unfortunately not, I've never found a reliable way to only show full S-line cars and they aren't too common. Good luck with your search!

So from what I have been able to gather, if a b8 hasnt had the oil consumptions testing/repairs done you have 8yr/80k to do so. I was limiting my search to only cars that had repairs but looking for a wagon with low miles and this work done has been near impossible so I opened up the search. Currently found a '10 A4 Avant Premium+ and only 57k miles. None of the testing or repairs have been done but all work done by the local audi dealerships and seems to check out to recently being owned by an couple who didnt drive it much. It did spend the first 3 years of its life as a corporate car. Dont know if thats good or bad Listed for $14.9K which seems like a good price from what I have found.

Nice thing is I am still under yrs and mileage (for at least a year) to get the work done. Timing tensioner by 100k but honestly I see this being gone by then (drive about 10k a year currently). Other than that, any reservations? I dont need a bucket of repairs to pay for and this has me worried going to an Audi. For the money I could easily find a boring domestic car but thats just not fun.

    Thanks in advance.

If it has full dealer service records, including EVERY oil change, and you're ok accepting some risk of Audi not paying out, it should be OK. Also, if and when you go see it, look in the MMI Car menu to check the oil level. If it is full, ask them if it burns oil and press for specifics. If it doesn't read full, you'll have your answer.

Hey I have interest in this Allroad - https://bend.craigslist.org/cto/6080145186.html. Price wise what are peoples thoughts?

It is about a 3 1/2 hr drive to go look at it as well.

    Some things to mention -
    Brakes are at 50%
small scrapes on the front driver's side fender and a minor scrape and dent on the passenger side

Hard to tell by the pictures but is this leather interior more like an off white.

Hits all my check marks except the blue isn't # 1 choice and not sure on interior color but otherwise seems like it is well maintained, has the sports package, small mods already done that I would do if I bought a different one.

    Thanks

    Chad

Looks good to me. I like the blue over white, personally, and he's basically hit the checklist for commonly done mods.

That's a pretty nice find if that color combo does it for you.

I just spent the last month searching for an AR so I'm familiar with the market to some degree. It took some time to find one (to my liking) and finally found one and had it delivered from VT last week. This one seems like a pretty fair price for what you're getting and especially because it's a C.P.O. which is transferrable.

Ask yourself if you can live with the color combo or just keep looking because there are a lot of them out there.

I think I could live with the color combo. So I may have to take the 3 + hour trip to go take a look at it.

Hoping all you knowledgeable folks can offer me some insight. I currently own a 2009 base model A4 and am looking to upgrade into a newer A4 or S4.

    So far I am considering the following two cars;

    2012 S4 Premium Plus 46k miles $28k asking price.

    2014 A4 Premium Plus 13k miles $27k asking price.

On average I only drive ~6-8k miles/year. The 2014 A4 CPO would be good until Nov 2019 where as the S4 has no remaining warranty. The S4 was always dealer serviced and has full maintenance records available, the A4 just came off lease.

Unfortunately the S4 does not have the sports diff or ADS options. I do not intend on pushing the car to hard as it will be my daily driver so I am not sure if I should be concerned with the lack of those options. I also wouldn't initially plan on modding the S4 beyond aesthetic mods. I would however likely have the stage 2 APR work done to the A4 as I do find the turbo lag in my current stock A4 on the annoying side. Would you feel the increase in performance of the stock S4 vs the A4 with APR stage 2 tune worth the price increase, lack of warranty, and increased mileage? I am in a position to cover the expected future maintenance items
    l
When I negotiated over the 09 A4 a few years ago it was pertinent to inquire about the oil consumption issue. I know this has been resolved on the A4's but are there any inherent issues on the 2012 S4's I should be aware of and ask about prior to negotiating?

Also, for those who are more experienced with pricing on these models do you feel these prices are accurate and if not can you suggest a starting price point for negotiating purposes? Any tips/talking points I could use for negotiating with the online sales reps would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking to upgrade my loyal 2005 B6 A4 later this year and I'd like to hear some thoughts from all you B8 A4 owners. I love my current A4 but it's time to look for something a little newer and nicer.

My budget is about $10-$12k and at first I was pretty set on the B8 A4, plenty of 2009-2011 models out there that fit in my budget. Then I started reading the threads about the oil consumption issue and the more I read them, the more it feels like I should just run the opposite way. I've read about the class action lawsuit & settlement, the 8 years/80k miles rule and it seems like most cars that I see in that 10-12k price range have over 80k miles on them and less than perfect service records. Reading the threads makes it sound like every 2.0T owner has the issue, but I wonder how many cars actually are affected.

My commute is long and I drive about 15k miles a year, so I care about gas mileage. My current 1.8T gives me a nice 30+ MPG on the freeway so any 2.0T would be perfect for my needs. However now I'm considering a couple of different options.

    A4 B8

+ I really love the exterior look
+ most used models are 2.0T, which would be perfect for my needs
    - worried about oil consumption issues
    - interior isn't as impressive as the A6

    A6 C6 (facelift)

+ the interior looks really nice & spacious, which could make it a little more comfortable when I'm stuck in the Southern California traffic every day
+ they seem to come with more features than most A4s
+ most used models are 3.0 or 3.2, which would mean no need to worry about oil consumption issues, correct?
    - can't expect to have the same MPG compared to the 2.0T
    - exterior looks nice but I almost like the A4 more

Besides these I've considered the A5, which I also like but once again I'd have to choose between the possibility to have an oil burning 2.0T or a 3-liter that eats more gas. Decisions decisions... The 3-liter models won't break the bank but for my driving I'm sure a 2.0T would do just fine.

Any recommendations? What would you guys pick? Is there anything else I should pay attention to besides the things I already mentioned?

2009 and 2010 cars were mostly affected with the oil consumption problem. 2011 was mostly ok, 2012 were almost immune, and 2013+ B8.5s were fine. I'd personally suggest stretching your budget for a 2012 A4 vs a late C6 because the overall platform is much younger than the C6 platform. But that's just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the answer, B8.5 would definitely be a safe choice but of course the prices bump up significantly when looking at any B8.5 models. Every now and then I actually see 2012 A4s that fit in my budget or are just slightly above it, so maybe I should narrow down my search and focus on those. It's not like I'm in a rush anyway, so I can take my time finding the perfect match. Many 2012 models also seem to have less than 80k miles on them, so I guess with proper service records a possible oil consumption issue would be covered by Audi's extended warranty.

What's the important maintenance to look for in a higher mileage 2012 A4, apparently timing chain tensioners at 100k? For my B6 timing belt & water pump job was about $1,600, is the cost for timing chain tensioner in the same ballpark? Anything else I should pay attention to? I'm looking to get a car that I can drive for years and years and comfortably put a crapload of miles on it.

Like all Audi cars, staying on top of maintenance will make them reliable over the long term. Around 100k you'll want to do the timing tensioner and a carbon cleaning, both of which can be done yourself if you're mechanically inclined or for around $2k at a shop. I'm tired but that's all I can think of off the top of my head... aside from that just fix whatever breaks and enjoy it. I'll add that to the main post since it's becoming more relevant as these cars age.

Thanks buddy, really appreciate the help and advice! Back in Europe I would see used A4s for sale with over 300k miles on them, so clearly these things can go forever with proper maintenance. Now I just gotta start looking for the best deal I can find. Thanks again!

I'm hoping to get some thoughts on this posting: https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/6108509993.html

Been looking for a while at B8 A4s/S4s and really like the look of the avants. It looks super clean, and tastefully modified so far. My anticipated mods would only be stage 1 APR tuning anyhow. My initial concerns with this car are price ($4k over kbb), and the suspension setup. It has swapped S4 springs and shocks and have heard S4 springs are stiffer due to the increased weight of that car. Wheel gap doesn't look bad at all in the pictures, however. Good buy, for the right price?

I like it! The guy has had it posted for about a month, so maybe you can get it for less since he hasnt been able to sell it at that price yet.
That's a little less than what I paid for my 2010 Avant with about the same amount of miles not to long ago (also purchased it from a guy in the Happy Valley/Clackamas area). Mine was in amazing condition, only a few very small scratches in the paint, and the interior is like new. It was fully detailed right before I bought it. Also brand new tires. Only problem I've had with it since I bought it was the turbo, which Sunset Audi (Airport Way location) put a new turbo in it via warranty (Audi extended the warranty on the turbo to 75,000 miles).

Very nice looking ride Brent, I really like the white on that body style. Good to know about the turbo warranty :D. What symptoms was it showing??

I was really hoping to snag it for much less than posted.. KBB with these options in "very good" condition has it priced at 14.5k. Any reason in particular why these cars are going for much over KBB?

Any thoughts on the S4 suspension setup? Would it actually improve the handling, or would the weight differences between the A4 and S4 throw that out of whack? From what I've researched here is that it is generally looked down upon to do this swap.

The S5 brakes are meh, it doesn't seem like it adds any to the performance. The stopping distances 60-0 on the b8 avant and the s5 are pretty much the same (~105ft). I guess I don't see the reason for the 3.4k difference between KBB and posted. Is this reasonable?

    Thanks!
CEL P0299 came on for the turbo. I replaced the diverter valve myself but it came back on again. I contacted a buddy who works for Sunset Audi and he told me about the extended warranty. Sunset Audi at Airport Way was awesome about fixing it. Got to drive a brand new A4 loaner car for a few days while they fixed it. That was fun!
I'm not sure why, but it seems every Audi that is in good condition sells for more than KBB.
Sorry, but I cant give you any insight on the suspension. Looking at the pictures, it looks like it still sits at stock height, looks like a stock A4 height/wheel well space. Mine has H&R springs & shocks. It handles amazing in my opinion, but my previous car was a Toyota Corolla so not the best comparison. Ha ha!
Have you offered the guy less yet?

've heard similar concerns about the S4 spring rate, but I don't recall anyone actually doing it so can't say for sure. It does look to be at about the stock ride height.

Avants tend to go for above book value because they're relatively uncommon, but I think if you can talk a few grand off that price it'd be a solid deal.

The owner and I agreed to a solid price less than asking but still above KBB. Already has the stage 2 TSB completed. I'll be taking delivery on Monday. Ready to start on it already

Awesome! Lower it a little and tint those windows, then it will look really nice in my opinion.

2010 2.0 TDi 170bhp, things to look out for?

I'm considering buying a B8 as mentioned in the title.
It has a manual transmission and Quattro. Partial leather seats and S-line interior package with B&O soundsystem. 120' km on the clock.

Anyting in particular I should be aware of when inspecting/testdriving the vehicle?

I were told the user manual says the timing belt should be replaced at 180' km. Is that really true? That high milage?
Noticed (in the servicehistory) as well that the oil in the haldex coupling hasn't been replaced yet. Nothing to worry about, or what?

Did B8s come with Haldex in Norway? Not familiar with the European models but that doesn't sound right to me.

Thank you for all of the info in this thread, it's been really helpful in narrowing down my search and given me confidence in switching to Audi.

Would you mind taking a look at this 2014 Premium+ A4 to see if there's anything concerning I might be missing? 39k miles for $22.9k. Would hope to get them down to $20.5k or so as it's been on the market for 83 days.
