Yes the turbo is the same, no the B8.5 doesn't have that problem. Only the 2009s had that issue, as far as I know.

Hello I just reserved this 2014 a4. Only 4000 miles owned by an elderly couple as a secondary car. Is 35k too much for this manual cpo? There are no manuals around the country with all of these options.

Thanks, mine is a 2010 and i think that waste gate flapper is bad. I get the code sometimes when i push it entering a highway.

But as far as the turbos, some are saying i need to have the same engine code where the turbo is coming off from. Some are saying its the same turbo from 09-2015

If you have to pay to replace it, go K04. No point in paying the same money for a worse OE turbo.

    Great Thread!

I am currently looking to upgrade my 2012 A4 Prem+ "S Line Exterior Appearance" to a 2012/2013 A4 Prestige "Sport Package". In my research, I am finding some confusing descriptions of what "Sport Package", "S Line Package" and the "S Line Appearance" option. Thus, this post to convey details from the 2012 Media kit. Hopefully this will be useful some a future buyer (and maybe get added to the initial post).

You can get Media Kits up to 2013 from here. PM me if you want a copy of the 2012 Media Kit.

    From the 2012 Media Kit:
Sport Package: Sport Suspension Calibration, Three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with shift paddles (automatic transmissions only), and twelve-way power front sports seats (includes four-way power lumbar adjustment)
S Line plus Package: 19" titanium 5-arm-rotor design allow wheels, summer performance tires, body-color side mirrors, black-optic exterior appearance, and platinum gray rear diffuser blade

"Audi S Line exterior appearance" is listed under the Specifications/Exterior section as standard on the Premium Plus/Prestige A4/S4. It does not give a description of what is included, but on my ride, it is just the S Line badges/branding. It does not include any of the performance options in the above packages. So, beware if you are looking at a car that has S Line badges on it, this does necessarily mean it has any of the performance options.

    Anyone interested in a 2012 A4 Prem+ with 45K?

Anyone selling a 2012 A4 Prestige with the Sports Package?

    Happy Trails..

Looking to buy my first Audi. 2009 A4 2.0T with 63k miles. I'm concerned with the engine noise clicking. The engine cover is not on, so maybe that's why it's so loud. Is this clicking sound normal? Thanks!

New around here. Looking at a 2013 A4 coming off lease. It only has 14,500 miles on it. It is a premium model with heated seats and the lighting package only. NADA says its worth about 23.5k clean retail. Looking to purchase for 22k. Talking with Audi it also includes the remainder of Audi care and the next 2 services (35k, 45k) will be free. Also factory warranty until next July. Does this seem like a good deal? CarFax shows no accidents and car was serviced at dealer for all maintenance. All intervals were on time.

Seems like a reasonable price. If it has the lighting package, you're missing out on a few things (like tri-zone climate control) but not much. Check that it has the AMI in the glove box, though, if that is important to you.

Ill start my very first post here. Looking at a 2009 Audi A4 Wagon with 116,000 miles. Asking price is 11,500. I inquired about the oil consumption and she didnt really know much about it. Says the car has a service interval computer for oil change and she follows that closely without having to change or fill it before the next oil change. Other than that, Im not sure about what trim level she has. By the looks of the photos I see standard steering wheel, standard seats. I'd love to get a higher trim level but its out of my budget. I was looking at a b7 originally, but for a little more money this one came up. I plan on doing some minor mods to it and I don't rack up many miles anyway. My last car was a 2013 Juke and I put 6,000 miles a year on it. Just looking for a nice looking daily driver. If this doesnt work out Im still on the hunt for an avant under 10k. I've learned so much from this forum already and I hope to join in more with whatever car I end up with.

I'd be concerned if it hasn't had the rings done. Also, you'll likely need the timing tensioner repaired ASAP at that mileage.

Looking to sell my B7 A4 and get the B8 as my wife cannot drive manual :( I am looking at a 2012/2013 A4. Was the oil consumption and timing chain tensioner issue resolved in a later year or all years affected? I've heard the oil consumption issue was fixed in >2012 A4? Is it true? What about the cam chain tensioner?

I can't speak for the chain tensioner, but oil consumption was basically fine in 2012 and newer cars. @blbroo may know the specifics on the tensioner.

I don't know when the tensioner update started going into cars. Sorry

That 2013 AWD 8AT seems to be sold, but there's another one listed (http://texasauto.com/Used-2013-Audi-...TX/vd/31862937) which looks good. Has navigation, too.

The 2012 6MT doesn't bother me aesthetically, I agree the gray interior isn't ideal but wrapping the trim in a black aluminum or replacing it with Audi's dark-stained wood trim would make a world of difference.

In order, of those three, I'd get the 6MT (rare, manual is much more enjoyable), the 2013 (nav is nice), and then the 2012. All of them look like solid choices, though.

Doing an Autotrader search with that dealer's zip code turns these up too, though...

2013 Premium Plus 6MT Sport Package (the exact configuration of my car), low mileage, was probably owned by an Audi fan based on the RS grille:
    http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...17563539&Log=0

2013 Premium 6MT CPO (CPO warranty is nice to have):
    http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...17404210&Log=0

Given all 5, I'd buy the 2013 6MT Sport, then the 6MT CPO, then the three I had ranked before.
I've got a 2012 premium non-sport 6MT coming up for sale. Silver with black interior, no mods, all records, lots of work done, 145k mostly highway miles and zero issues. In Austin. Sweet looking car.

    Hi,

Looking at B8.5s right now (2013+) and the two things that I can't figure out:

    1) Is the manual B8.5 flex fuel? (The carfax on the car I looked up said flex fuel, but I'm reading that this is not possible)

    2) Did the Premium plus package come with S-line as an option? One of the cars I looked at was a premium plus S-line. It had S line badges on the fender, and sportier looking front and rear bumper, but no S-line interior bits, no sport suspension, etc.
The 2013 A4 MY media kit I read said that S-line was not an option for Premium plus.

    Thanks!

1.) Nope, only 8AT B8.5s (most of them, it says on the fuel door) are capable of running E85. No manuals or CVTs are.

2.) What you've stumbled on is the "S-line Appearance Package," which has the bumpers and badges but does not include the S-line (same as sports package) suspension or the S-line interior.

Hey guys! New to the forum and looking at picking up an A4 Avant ant wanted to know your thoughts on this? I've read through the thread but I'm still somewhat confused on the packages and such, I've looked at this one and will hopefully be taking it in for a PPI this week, thoughts?

looking to get your thoughts on it as far as things to ask about and the price. price seems very good from what i can see, and assume most issues have been cleared up since it's a '14, but wanted to ask the pros
i have a few contacts that can get her a warranty at cost. is that worth it?

Hardly a pro here but wanted to comment anyway.

What type of person and what goals does your friend have for the car? (DIYer? Audi enthusiast? interest in modding?) Also a '14 with 21k on it should still have factory warranty through 2018 or 50,000 mi.

That's a '14 premium model with fairly low miles but not much else going for it if you are an Audi enthusiast. It doesn't have LED lights, fold down rear seats, or the fancy trip computer stuff in the dash.

If he/she is not a DIYer, and just wants Quattro, Audi, and factory warranty and dealer service/maintenance, then that car fits the bill albeit a bit bland as far as Audi's go.

If plans are to mod, find a '13 premium plus with more options, LED lights, and a bit more miles under $20K since warranty is irrelevant once u get into modding.

Any B8.5 will be quite reliable, you're right that the issues were worked out. That car looks fine but for aesthetics, safety, and resale value I'd suggest finding one with HID lights. Standard on the Prem+ and a standalone option on the Premium; it shouldn't be too hard to find.

I wish I had seen this thread before I bought my 2013 A4 base model. I bought one through a dealer listing on ebay. I paid less than $19,000 with shipping included from a wholesaler in Houston. It's a FWD 2.0T with a CVT and had less then 36k miles on it. I've had the car for about a week and a half and I love it. I had been driving a '99 1.8T B5 Passat for the past 14 years and it's been my favorite car of all time. The A4 with the 2.0T makes it feel like a slug by comparison. The CVT takes a little getting used to, but I've been so used to driving cars with manual transmissions that any automatic feels foreign to me. The only real complaint I have about the CVT so far is that it tends to slip when it's cold when I'm first starting out. The engine will rev up before the transmission engages and cause the tires to spin if I give it too much gas. After that it seems to drive just fine. The wife refuses to drive a stick so I succumbed and agreed to get an automatic this time around.

I'm not complaining because the car is super clean and I'm pretty sure I got a great deal. I would have preferred a Quattro, but I was unaware of the various models this car came in at the time. Wifey drives an '05 A6 3.2 Quattro and we both love the car. I also noticed that the rear seats don't fold down in the A4, which kinda sucks. I do like that the brackets for child car seats are easily accessible. We have three grandkids and one of them is an infant so that's a feature that's long overdue.

My one major complaint about the car is the pitiful Audi concert sound system. I had an awesome system in my Passat that I can't transplant to the Audi, which totally sucks. I've seen the thread about the Alpine X701D-A4 and it looks promising, but I doubt it holds a candle to my previous head unit. I've been playing around with using SD cards loaded with music and a playlist and got it working over the weekend. It's a neat feature, but I have an aversion to listening to mp3's so it's a mixed bag. The Audi concert system is anything but high end so using better source material probably won't make any difference in the sound quality. At least it's not a Bose system. I'd like to rip the Bose system out of wifey's A6, but I don't drive it all that much and she's literally deaf in one ear so there's not much point.

I was going to purchase a b8 A4, but the more I research on this thread I'm not so sure...

2011 A4 2.0T Quattro Premium, 68,658mi - no mods as far as I can tell, all service history at the same dealer.

I called the dealer with the vin. Good news is stage 1 and stage 2 oil consumption were completed back in 2012, bad news is the timing chain and tensioner were never done. After reading all the horror stories and seeing 3 class action suits, I'm not sure I want to take a chance on this vehicle.

I'm looking for advice from more experienced B8 owners, should I take a chance and just replace the chain and tensioner ASAP, or walk away from what looked like a great price?

Does it have HIDs or halogen headlights? If the price is good and it has HIDs I'd just budget for immediately doing that repair (and maybe a carbon cleaning) and get it without regret.

    Halogen.

Cash deal close to top end of my budget. With a baby due in 8 weeks, I don't think I can justify the immediate expense. (I don't have the skill or experience to do it myself) If the odds were good that it would make it to the 90-100k mi range I would feel more comfortable. Thanks for the input.

It should. 100k is when the tensioner should be changed.

    Hello,

I'm looking for some advice on whether to purchase a 2012 A4 Avant Prestige with S-Line and Titanium package (http://www.toyotaofoxnard.com/used/A...d3df860b0f.htm)
    or a 2013 Allroad Prestige (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...lroad-Prestige).

My main concern with the A4 is that it's pre-facelift so more prone to reliability issues and it lacks bluetooth music streaming (however that shouldn't be too hard to resolve in the aftermarket).

My concern with the Allroad is that it's nearly at 100k miles.

    Any advice appreciated!

That is a quandry... this is not exactly apples-to-apples, given that the AR is so heavily modified. If you want all of those mods, that's a killer value. Book on the car is like $24k and change so you're getting the mods at more than half off MSRP (not including labor), as it should be. On the other hand the 2012 Avant, if it is actually a black optics car and true S-line, is rarer, better looking (in my opinion), and substantially cheaper to go along with the lower mileage. But then you'd want to mod it.

How do I determine if it's a genuine S-Line & Black Optics? Everything appears to be there but I'm sure that could have been done through mods. Is there a way to check the VIN?

While I love all of the mods done to the Allroad, I'd be very happy with just an APR stage 1 ECU tune.

The other benefit I see to the Allroad is the Driving Dynamics mod has been done. Can this be done in a 2012?

I don't know what you're referring to by "driving dynamics," but if you can be more specific I'd be happy to explain if I know.

Re: S-line and Black Optics (same as Titanium, I believe in 2012 it was called Black Optics), confirm with the dealer that the pictures they posted are of that actual car... it isn't clear on the site. If so, it is a Black Optics car (black grille surround and window trim, along with 19" rotor wheels). It's a desirable package and looks great with white. For S-line, get a picture of the front seats/interior and we'll be able to confirm whether it's a true S-line, S-line appearance package (bumpers) with sports package, or just S-line appearance package with a standard interior. Ride height looks like a true S-line but who knows. Interior will tell. If it's a true S-line black optics car, and you don't need the heavily modded car, I'd jump on that 2012 personally.

    Re: Driving Dynamics

Sorry, I've owned a Lexus the last 9 years so I'm getting up to speed on Audi terminology. By "Driving Dynamics" I was referring to "Audi Drive Select". The Allroad has been modded to allow for customized drive modes through the MMI as well as the buttons. From researching the forums briefly, it looks as though this can be done on the 2012 models also. However considering my primary concern is steering feedback anyway, I might not even care because of the 20102's hydraulic system vs the 2013 electric.

    Re: S-line & Black Optics/Titanium

A salesmen sent me pictures of the car so I can confirm the alcantara seats and 3-spoke steering wheel with "S" badge at the bottom.

I've also spent most of the afternoon looking at how to upgrade the MMI from 3G to 3G+ so that I can have bluetooth streaming and it doesn't look all that daunting. I might even hold off a little bit to see if someone can figure out how to retrofit the new MMI (4G?) from the B9 so that I can have Android Auto.

    Thank you for your feedback!

For sure man. Having owned both a B8 and B8.5 I infinitely prefer the hydraulic steering, most notably it's more linear in a cross breeze on the highway. As cool as the modded AR is, I would buy the 2012 if it were me.

Looking into purchasing a 2013 Allroad, any tips? What should I look out for? What are common issues? Should I get an extended warranty? How reliable is this car? Thanks! Sorry if this has been discussed, I'm having a hard time finding common issues thread about the allroad specifically.

Here's the specific one I'm considering:
    http://www.idriveautoportland.com/in...ge-Portland-OR

They're offering an extended factory warranty wrap for 2900, 3.5years 60k miles. Worth it? Do I need it?

My plan is to only keep the car for 2-3 years then upgrade.

No common issues thread because there aren't really any issues with any B8.5 cars. There's an open recall for them right now, which is just a software update, but aside from that you're good to go. I would forgo the warranty on that one... with 25k miles it should basically be maintenance free for several years, at least until 100k miles.

What do you think of the listing? Seems to be at KBB price, has all the options I want. I'm hoping I can sell it in 2 years and not lose too much, what do you think?

I've had a hard time finding a definitive answer regarding which tensioner the 2012 has. I've seen some say it's not on issue with that model year and I don't want to replace it if it has the revision. Any insight on this?

Everything I recall is that B8 has one version and B8.5 has the revision. @blbroo any insight from your research before you replaced yours?
