Help choose the next color for my RS7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all,

With our new professional coating launching in January, we've been running new colors on most of our shop cars. My RS7 is black from the factory, and is ready for it's first AutoFlex color. This coating is a high gloss, reaching or exceeding OEM gloss units. It's treated just like standard OEM paint - you can sand it, buff it, wax it, wash it like the car was stock.. but of course in true DipYourCar fashion, peel it off when you want to change the color again or go back to stock.

I'm having a tough time choosing a color for this car. Wanted to let the community have a say in it. The car now is lowered on factory air, Milltek Non Res and APR ECU. Needs something aggressive but clean.

Here is the car as it sits (I know, it's nice as is.. but obviously it's going to get several different colors over it's lifetime)

Here are a couple examples of cars sprayed with the new AutoFlex peelable auto paint. Come a long way since our dipping days.

Nogaro Blue OEM Match B5 A4:

    Evergreen inspired Z3:

    Colorshift Pearl GT-R:

    Colorshift Pearl 991 Turbo S:

Open to suggestions, I've been thinking anything from a pearl red, dark metallic grey even to a subtle ColorShift pearl.

Did you get rid of the S8? That's some stable you're building there. Dark metallic gray gets my vote.

How hard will this be as a DIY? Can an amateur really get good looking results? What is the cost? Really would like something new on my e93.

Been following your videos and considering a dip. Pro installers in CT are hard to come by, and charge a pretty good premium vs DIY. Staying on topic though, it's hard to recommend a color choice not knowing the range of Autoflex options. Can you pretty much do anything you would do with dip, pearls, and topcoat? I really like the Deep Sea Blue you did on the SQ5, and the Mocha Brown pearl or Swampland Green you did on the S8.

Side note: How does the new product compare or differ with Halo EFX? Is it a competitor or something completely different?

You can do any color with this - matte, gloss, solid, pearl, candy, etc. This AutoFlex product line is completely different than halo.

This particular product, AutoFlex, is more of a professional level coating. A pro setup like a compressor and proper HVLP is required. There will be pros all over capable of installing the AutoFlex Coatings in 2016 - paint shops and body shops all over are picking it up.

What I've been waiting for is to see a new autoflex color which very closely replicates Merlin Purple. When that is released, I'm headed right over to Jeremy @ Pearls & Pigments!

I personally LOVE the metalic copper like the Mustang had a while back. I really want to see that dynamic color in Autoflex.

British Racing Green would be pretty dope. If you wanted to get outrageous, figure out a way to do the Multicam pattern.

I'd go with one of the more vibrant variants. Unique color but backed by history/tradition.

Were I to do British Racing Green, it would be the one of the classic hues. No metallic, pearl, etc. I used to own this car's twin:

Thanks for the info. I'm know you cant give an exact price as you can't speak for other shops, but are we talking a price similar to a wrap, a respray, or substantially less. Any ballpark information? If this is the same price as a wrap, what is the advantage here?
