rear inner tail light - LED replacement?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Curious was looking at it, and figure it's all one piece? I can't replace the LED's?
    I noticed two were out.

Can't seem to find a lot of information on it, but it appears you have to buy the whole unit?

It's not a huge deal, I think it's covered under warranty but I have a deductible so if I can do it for $50 then I would just do it myself, just curious if I should be wasting anymore time on it

If your under warranty why waste your time? Rockauto.com has good prices on these as well.

LEDs rarely fail. I had a few intermittently go out on my mdx, unplugged the harness from the light and sprayed some deoxit into the plug. Fixed it and never happened again. Might be worth a shot.

I just wanted to see if there was a quick fix for it. I have a third party warranty so they will still get me with a deductible, so don't want to jump on replacing it all right away. Likely wait till something else breaks lol, seems to be the story of the car last few months...

I'll try the contact cleaner idea tonight on my way home, it's $6 fix attempt.

I'm with you OP - I have two out on my right taillight and one out on the left. Irks me something fierce.

I need to try the deoxit mmm def mentioned, because as he said LED's rarely fail, so I was surprised to see it.

5 led's out on one inner tail light here, replacement is getting fitted this weekend. I don't think they are replaceable individually.

    ding this worked! sorta...

Got a can of electronic contact cleaner ($5.00), sprayed it and one of two LED's came back...looking for one more!!

So I totally understand the concept from highschool electronics class and playing with LED's etc. They last forever and are more energy efficient yada yada. HOWEVER, if there isn't enough power *correct me if I m wrong* then the LED won't light. By cleaning the contacts, you get more power, which causes LED's to light up.

I got a can of compressed air from cleaning out laptops and desktops, give that a spray in the morning when I got more time and try the contact cleaner again. Hopefully all LED's will be alive again

Hopefully this will help others in the future! Give it a shot anyway, best $5 (cdn so that's like $1 rest of the world) you might spend

Had this happen to my rear passenger taillight...3-4 LED's burnt out, brought it in and was replaced under warranty. There is actually a TSB for the replacement of the rubber seals behind the taillights which is letting moisture in behind them and causing the LEDs to fail. Can't remember the TSB number off the top of my head...

this actually makes total sense of why it would corrode over time

I notice there isn't much sealing, DEFINITELY not air tight like on previous cars I ve owned

just updating the thread to avoid someone going down the path...the 2nd LED went out again, then it rained and came back...this morning it went out. Tried cleaning and now it flickered, then went out again.

Said screw it...off to Ebay, thank you Latvia...saves me $200+ for genuine OEM part

Reviving this thread. My 2010 was just in for its 75K service when i noticed BOTH rear inner (trunk lid mounted) LED arrays were burned out. I had looked up this issue and can see many people have had this happen and the dealer service manager said it is common. It's nearly $700 to have them both replaced, and since I've noticed a LOT of A4s and S4's with this issue driving around. I hear rumours of a TSB but my service manager says there isn't one. Kinda wondering who else has had this issue?

    Actually, be careful with this.
I started having some odd signalling issues with the replacement off Ebay. Like I would signal right, and it would blink once right, 2-5 times left then continue blinking right!!!

I ended up just going to the car recyclers and grabbing one for dirt cheap, but it didn't quite fix the problem. Still happening, so Audi is thinking it is actually the entire turn signal assembly, that is covered under warranty and will get it done on my next oil change or service
