Engine Trouble - have you had this happen?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi gang,

While driving home tonight my allroad started to run very rough, the check engine light began to flash, white exhaust in copious amounts came out the pipes and the engine wouldn't rev over 4k rpm. I was only a mile from home so managed to get it into my garage.

There is a very strong gas odor around the car. I checked fault codes via APR dongle and got:
    • P0087 Fuel Rail/system pressure - too low
    • P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
    • P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire detected
    • P130A Hide Cylinder
    • P2261 Turbo Boost Pressure Not Detected

I called Achtuning to get their thoughts. Two suggestions as to what was going on:
    1. Coil pack failure
    2. Injector stuck open

I swapped out the coil packs and started the car. Difficult to start, same symptoms.

I should also say that I recently had the dealer replace the PCV as part of the recall.

So, could this be an injector stuck open? It seems like it could be considering the extremely strong fuel odor.

I will be towing the car to Audi in the morning. Thought I'd check with the forum.

OK, did a quick search and found this post: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ms-Audi-A5-2-0

Pretty much is identical to what I experienced. In that case its an injector stuck open.

That is good to hear. My biggest issue now is how to get the car towed there. Any Seattle area members have a recommendation for a flat bed tow service?

When I had my car break down I just rented a flat trailer from uhaul along with boards and pulled it home 120 miles with the jeep. It cost like 50$ lol. Maybe call your insurance and see if they can get you a flat bed on them. Usually you get one free tow?

Not sure if you're in warranty or not, but on a 2013, wouldn't you have roadside assistance from Audi? If not, when I had an issue with my last A4 last year, I called up CAA (AAA in the US). Joined for $50 for the year and they sent a flat-bed. They new without even asking to send a flatbed. Only issue is that it will take a little while longer to get to you since they have fewer flatbeds on the road.

I ended up using my insurance. Won't cover total cost of the tow but at least some of it.

The car is out of warranty now. But I did buy an extended warranty when I got the car that will cover another $75 of the towing costs.

Should have asked around if anyone had AAA. They have free towing.

Make sure you get an oil and filter change...the leaking injector can dump a lot of fuel...which ends up in the oil pan.

    Ah, good reminder!

I'm also going to get intake valve carbon cleaning done (at the recommendation of Achtuning and service Audi advisor) since they will be in there anyway.

Interesting side note related to the extended warranty offered by Audi from Fidelity. Talking with the Audi service advisor last night, he told me that Audi won't notify Fidelity that the car is modified (TD1) therefore there shouldn't be any issues with any repairs done (my car is over 50k miles). They basically just call up Fidelity and describe the necessary repairs and that is it. Interested to see if that bears out...

As suggested, cylinder 3 injector was bad. Will be getting the car back tomorrow afternoon. Decided to get valve carbon cleaning, replace the plugs and oil / filter change.

At this point the remaining bummer is Crystal Mt ski area is opening my favorite chair tomorrow and I'll miss it. Loaner they gave me, an S4, has summer tires...

Time to bum a ride to the mountain!
Can't believe they gave you a car with summer tires when the sea level temps are in the 30s/40s.

Yeah kinda lame that any car sold in the PNW wouldn't at a minimum have all seasons.

On the other hand the S4 is quite a nice ride engine wise. Such an improvement over th 2.0t even after all the upgrades I've done. The supercharged V6 is NICE. Got me thinking about a new car. The allroad is paid off and with all that I've done I want to hang on to it. IMO it is the best blend between performance, driveability and function available in the U.S. right now. That said, I've been wanting an S5 for a while now and driving the S4 got me thinking of adding to the stable.
