Is this a normal cold start?

This is the length of time for a cold start on my new S4. This one is actually a little shorter than some others. It seems a little long to me. Like it "turns over" too many times. Thoughts?

I think totally normal. Mine does that sometimes too when really cold. Nothing to worry 'bout.

if you do you need to make sure that the door isnt opened after you hook it up and you'll need a battery maintainer.
you need to watch mvb 103(low side fuel pressure) and 106(high side fuel pressure)
basically get it all set up , turn off all lights radio and a/c and have both those channels running - dont open the door because low side pump will prime.
watch mvb and see what drops

I would consider that if I had it, but it's a brand new car. I'm just trying to determine if this is normal. If so, fine. If not, I'll take it in.

I'd say totally normal but maybe just a tad bit long at the end ... nah .. i think it's normal. Edit* I just went out and started my car and yours does seem to have just a second longer of a turnover or two.

My Audi cold start seems like seconds go by, and this a garaged car in Texas. I would describe it as 3 or more times longer than my other cars.

It seems a bit longer than my 2015, but my car is in garage overnight. My s4,does take a bit longer than my old 2000 BMW 528. Lots of post say S4 do take a bit longer than other cars. A few seconds only.

Is this a normal cold start?

I'm comparing to my Yukon Denali and A3 TDI, both of which are quicker. Maybe it's just what this engine does... Shoot, even my son's 97 Pathfinder is quicker. Basically on the first turn over.

Mine behaves the same way on a cold start. Then on a semi-cold start (like when I go out to lunch at work), sometimes it feels and sounds like the engine starts so quickly that the starter is still trying to start it for a split second after ignition. It kind of stutters and falls all over itself for a split second, but then it's fine.

I've had mine 2 weeks and it takes roughly the same amount of time. Feels longer than any other car that I've ever owned. Rode with a buddy in his A6 a few times, and his takes roughly the same time. Must be an Audi thing.

    I think it's specifically the 3.0Ts. My mother's '10 A6 3.0T takes just as long as our S4s however our '13 Q5 2.0T (and my prev '11 A4) is much quicker.

That's about average for my '12 S4 in >0C weather. Around -25C to -30C ambient it cranks for a good 2-3s before starting. I need a new battery 'cause starting the car in those conditions will sometimes cause a 15% drop in voltage lol.

Interestingly enough - mine started instantly it seemed when I got - then after the Fuel Rail recall it took about that long - upon asking around here - it was deemed normal - and it's never even come close to not starting - just seems like it takes just a tick more than most cars.

Another thought - I have no idea on Battery Life/Condition - as my car was used - but I wonder if that's a factor here - as it ages it takes a little extra juice to start the car? (Maybe it was just at that critical point and the recall put into the next lower wear point?)

Either way - OP's start up time seems to be common and normal for these cars.

Mine does this too. Maybe when it's a cold start the ECU lets it spin a bit longer before allowing ignition to allow more time for oil to get circulated before ignition brings the RPMs higher.

Oh wow, I didn't notice that, it seemed fast just like mine. But I did notice, maybe it's just me, the loud noise after the start. Or like I said, maybe it's just me because that's what I'm used to. I'll post a video here shortly, hopefully my camera can catch the noise.

Good to know, my car has been doing the same thing. Weirdly I feel like my APR exhaust recently has not been as loud as it usually is on a cold start.
