    Guys ,
I'm on my winter set for about 2 weeks now and simply hate the look

So I was thinking to plastidip my winter set Black with Gloss finish.
    Thoughts?

I can't powder coat them since my car is a lease...

I agree with the above. Keep them as is.

If you must plasti-dip them I recommend matte black and then a metalizer rather than gloss. Gives a nice metallic flake to the black.

Plastidip or Flexidip works well, and it's lasting nicely on my car. We had it through 3 winters on the Evo before it started to look like crap.

It's a nice, cheap alternative if you're not looking to powdercoat them.

This is 5 or 6 coats of Matte black with 4 coats of Glossifier. I used Flexidip this time around instead of Plastidip, and I've been happier with this product over Plastidip.

Me too Doug! That's the problem. My winter set is not unique enough/too common and boring for my taste (no offense to anyone here)
I would buy new winter tires (20") but my 19" only have 1 winter and I also just bought 2 weeks ago new winter tires for my girlfriend New Evoque Land Rover.....

If you're going the plasti-dip route, be sure to take your time and put on plenty of coats. Too thin and it can be a real pain to remove.

Also, if you don't use caution, you'll fit in well with all the boy racer Honda and Subie owners who consider plastidip a mod. #BecauseRacecar #Hoonigan

Coming from someone who has dipped just about everything.

I hate it now. It looks especially bad on wheels. Unless you spend the money on the specialty cleaners (which are fucking retarded expensive) they are really had to clean of brake dust.

They end being tainted brown after 2 weeks. You'll end up spending more time cleaning dip than a proper finish.

I had a phase with dip and it can be fun, but it's basically a waste of time and money.

^ I've had mine dipped since September, and they still look exactly how they looked when I dipped them, and I haven't had to go out of my way to keep them that way. If I'm washing the car at home I soak them in simple green and rinse them. If I'm cleaning it at the local wash, I use the pre-soak foam and spray them with high pressure water. Evo wheels were dipped for 3 years and we never had an issue with the wheels browning.

I find that people with the browning issue are usually over-thinking the process to clean plastidipped wheels. You shouldn't even need to touch them with a rag. Just make sure you're soaking them thoroughly with a non-abrasive cleaner, and try to use high-pressure water whenever you can.

Also had no issues with cleaning it. Did my diffuser also which lasted fine. Wheels I did not keep long enough to see if any issues arose. And if Flexidip is better, then give that a shot

Front wheel dipped, rear powder coated just about to be plastidipped to show the difference.

Are you sure that hasn't already happened? I can't believe all the guys on here who spend 60-90k on a car and then use plastidip like it's the best thing ever. To each his own I suppose; I just think it looks cheap.

After reading all comments/advises on here I think I will finally go with Antracite plastidip color just like on this picture. I think it will be a good compromise between my Black summer wheels and 2 tones winter set.
    What do you guys think?

I had plasti-dip on my last car. For me it looked nice as I was spraying it and after it dried it started to look cheap and like crap. I suck at painting though. If you're good at painting then the plasti-dip should come out fine. My buddy did it and he's had it for a year now. Still looks glossy and nice. Bottom line is; if it sucks peel it off and write off the 30 bucks as a loss. No big deal.

I do like the anthracite color though. Should look sweet if it's done right.

@jamin_00 that's insane how close they look. Powder is slightly more glossed but that still came out looking really good.

I like the look of anthracite on your car. Another possibility would be to mask off and plastidip only the machined area of the wheel, keeping your stock color for spokes and barrel but changing the contrast on outer edge.

Ya, the anthracite looks good, better than full black to me. Your car is already blacked out so it is a nice look. Go for it. Worst case you peel it off. At least when you peel off the wheels should be well protected to if you ever sell them.

People would probably request I burn in hell for suggesting this - but that color combo would look badass on an RS7 or S8

add me to the list of your winter wheels are better than your summer wheels and keep them as it is. for two reasons

    1. the rotors to me don't look good in a one-tone finish. the bare machined edge gives the wheel a unique and tasteful look and without the contrast it just looks like a dodge challenger 5 spoke.

    2. plastidip does NOT come off easily after months of being on a wheel..and will especially not come off easily after going through several winters. i ended up using paint thinner as a last resort on my old wheels to remove the plastidip and i'm pretty sure it took some clear with it as well.

Not a fan of the summers, something about the red doesn't look right to me. But I'm not hating the plasti-dip on the oem rotors. I've PD'd wheels before and never had a problem taking it off, but the trick is to put it on thick to start with.

I'm thinking about doing something different with mine, but don't know what color to go with Daytona grey. May play with a few different combos before I spring for new wheels - I don't have an endless supply like Mops

If you don't put the dip on thick enough it's such a pain to get off. Instead of peeling it off you have to soak it in tire blackener and then either scrape it off or use a high pressure sprayer, and it's a very messy process. I think it took us 7 hours to get the dip off of our wheels, because we had only put 5 or so coats on them the first time around.

I'm thinking about doing something different with mine, but don't know what color to go with Daytona grey. May play with a few different combos before I spring for new wheels - I don't have an endless supply like Mops
I personally love the Red Lip. It match my Dk Grey/Red interior. I also love the Black Rotor with Silver lip. This can maybe a good option for you since you're not a fan or the Red.
I also love the fact that these wheels are so rare! I get stop so many time by people, especially RS5 owner that tell me they wish they would have that wheel option when they purchased their car.
My winter wheels are too common. You see so many A5/A4 with these and even some Volks sometimes...

Not because everyone likes them because they come standard with any Sline package on A4/A5 and maybe soon with A1/A2/A3/A6/A7/A8/A9 LOL
Glad you approve the Anthracite grey dip ;)

So I was thinking to plastidip my winter set Black with Gloss finish.
    Thoughts?

I can't powder coat them since my car is a lease...
I plasti dipped my OEM for winter. Looks great and pretty easy to fix scrapes etc. Easy to peel off.
