Lateral upgrade? B6 sedan to avant

So I've been contemplating this for a short while now, and have recently been presented with an opportunity.

So my current B6 sedan is sitting at 130k, replaced the motor roughly a year ago and also did some upgrades and other maintenance items at the same time. Mechanically my car is sound, the body and seats have seen those 130000 miles though (minus the front bumper, that's not even a year old, due to a shops negligence during an alignment...)

The avant that I have in mind right now is at 175k. I haven't yet seen the car in person, but am supposed to later today. The pictures that I've seen so far show a great exterior (Imola) and a very clean interior, seats appear to be in stellar shape. The guy says that the timing job was done at ~100k but that was before he owned it and doesn't have proof...
    Currently listed at $8500.

So my idea going into this (if I do that is) would be to swap my lower mileage motor and most upgrades over to the avant, returning the sedan back to, or close to stock, and doing the timing on that motor, then sell the sedan for at least what I paid for the avant. The idea being to have the same car mechanically as I do now, but in a wagon, without having to pay too much of a premium..

So am I crazy? Would anyone else consider doing such a thing?

if you want an Avant, sounds like your best opportunity and you can parts out the rest of the sedan and probably negotiate a little lower on the price considering you know the engine at 175k is gonna be pretty much shot

you're better off re-doing the timing on the Avant and swapping over your mods versus swapping the entire engine and then re-selling the sedan; time>money

he's really right all depending on the oil consumption rate of the two motors. If one is much better or worse than the other I'd say that's the deciding factor on which to stick with. If it's just timing you're worried about then do it on whichever motor you intend to keep.

Also I made this same lateral swap from a Tip B6 S4 Sedan to a 6MT B6 S4 Avant. It will feel heavier and not as quick and nimble as a sedan but you'll forget that after you pack it full of shit enough times.

Yeah swapping motors would be dependent on the health of the one in the avant. Obviously I would want to keep the best option. However I don't NEED an avant, it would be nice to have that room though...

Well I guess I'll see if this even pans out. Might just drop it and keep looking for a clean MK4 R32 to add to the stable.
