    Blown itercooler twice!?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Okay so I recently replaced the turbo, kept it stock with another k03 and about 3 days into driving in 1st gear at probably 4,500 rpm I here the loudest bang I've ever heard come from a car and then it died, I could get it running for a few seconds and I could here air leaking by the bumper on the drivers side. Come to find out that the bottom plastic piece of the intercooler blew off of the aluminum fitting? I thought it was just an old intercooler so I got a brand new one and not 10 minutes into driving it happened again! Someone help, this is a very rare problem from what I am told and I don't know what to do

Did your intercooler end tanks blow off or did they charge hoses blow off the intercooler?

It is brand new but not from Audi, even so it really shouldn't go out in 10 minutes right?

I can make you one in my garage. I will guarantee it to last 11 mins.

You should contact whomever you bought it from or the manufacturer directly and ask them what the eff!

That's just not it, it seemed like a quality intercooler for the most part, you don't think it's strange that it went out the same way as the original, right after I changed the turbo? I just think something else is wrong

Might be related, might not be.
Why did you replace the turbo?
    What tune do you have?
What boost pressure are you seeing?
    Is your diverter valve functioning?

your bottom end would go boom before the end caps on the intercooler pop off.

"Are you actually asking that question.. Just don't even post on my thread. why do I need to lie on an Audi forum about me fucking two bitches at once. (not literally) yes i did, you are late to the party.
and this thread has ran out of gas. I just wanted to tell people about my experience I had 2 nights ago and felt like sharing it with my fellow B6'ers. And I thank the people who didn't hate."

I replaced the turned because the old one was leaking pretty bad and I have no tune. I dint know how to check the boost nor the diverted valve

Perhaps there's bad motor mounts or something and there's enough flex that it rips the bottom of the IC off

What is your boost gauge reading or spiking at? My stock side mount held 25 psi just fine before I upgraded to a FMIC. We need more details

I had a sort of similar problem with boost spikes when I replaced my smic with a front mount, hoses kept popping off. Without some way to measure boost - vagcom, boost gauge - its gonna be hard to say whats wrong over the internet.

You need to check on the two things I mentioned in your other thread: Clicky click® Excessive boost can definitely cause issues with the OEM intercooler. The end caps on mine started leaking heavily after a few years of running 22 psi of boost. Alex (alexza4) actually blew the end cap completely off of his OEM intercooler with a K04.

You need to find a way to get a measurement on your boost. A boost gauge would be the best way but there are other cheaper options. If you have an Android cell phone an ELM 327 Bluetooth OBD2 transmitter coupled with a TorquePro App will give you a general idea as to your boost levels. Total investment will be under $20. It isn't a substitute for a gauge but it will definitely help you determine if your N75 and or waste gate are functioning properly.
