US MILL WORKS front license plate bracket - loose

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What's up guys. I recently purchased a standard bracket from US Mill Works for my car and can't seem to get it on there tightly. Not sure if there is something wrong with my tow hook slot or I'm just incompetent..

My main problem comes from when I screw the bolt into the slot. No matter how much I screw it in there, it still wiggles around left and right and my license plate ends up sideways. Is it possible for the inside of my took hook slot to be stripped? I ordered the right bracket for my car so I don't think its because the screw is too small or anything like that.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Looking for suggestions on what to do. I thought about putting some glue on the screw before installing it but I don't want to do anything too permanent if I don't have to.

    Thanks in advance.

I hope this isn't the case with the one I ordered this week! But, have you tried plumbers tape? That should tighten up the hole and threads

Does the tow hook that came with your car fit properly, or is it also a 'sloppy' fit?

Aight I know that this serious but I read this and couldn't help but LOL. Sounds like you're making a blue movie man.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

Don't use glue or plumbers tape. You'll never get the thing out if and when you need to (which is typically during an emergency).
Mine went on easily... make sure you're following his directions as well... you can tighten it by hand only so far... then you have to put the front bracket on and tighten that and use that to then twist the bolt in further to get it snug... He has a vid on his web site showing how to do this... You might just not be installing it properly.

My car didn't come with a tow hook as far as I know. I purchased it used and one wasn't included

Yeah I'm trying to avoid that. And I've watched the video it seems simple enough, I don't know what I could be doing wrong. Everything else fits snug besides the main screw. I've tightened it by hand and then used pliers to get it even tighter and its still loose.

How much space is there between your plate and the front of your car? When I screw everything in my plate is basically touching. I feel like that shouldn't be the case. There really isn't enough room for me to rotate my plate to further tighten the screw like you said... if that makes sense

I was able to screw mine in perfectly fine and it's tight (that's what she said :P)... So when you screw it in, does it never feel like it can't go anymore or something?

It should be in your trunk in the foam cover over your spare tire.
If it is not there then I am willing to bet it was damaged while the car was being towed out of a ditch or similar. I'd suggest trying your US Mill bolt in your rear tow hook sleeve and see if it's snug... if yes then I'll bet your front sleeve was damaged... Was the car ever in an accident?

If you are having no luck with the tow hook you can also use this for your license plate... Just affix it to you front grill centered....

hahaha and no the opposite. I feel like I could keep turning it for an eternity and it still wouldn't be enough

Well I'm betting the previous owned used it and damaged the threading... I'm not a big fan of the tow hook plate look either - even though I ran one myself...
