    question folks!

im planning replacing the front two shocks on my DRC as one of them is leaking.

will i need a recharge for the DRC through an Audi dealership afterwards?

Pretty sure you do! Also, what is your reason for not going with a high end coil setup like Ohlins, Bilstein, or KW? I switched over and never looked back.

Some of us (many actually) love how the DRC works - it is a great solution for street use and still great for track use.

I am getting a good deal on the front two struts at about 1/12th the cost of a decent coilover system. the only reason im doing this is because the front right strut is leaking, otherwise im fine with the DRC really, not tracking the car or anything.

but after hearing that i would need a DRC recharge im seriously considering not doing this. recharging the DRC just seems redundant. in the future i do plan on going with coilovers though.

the other option is getting bilstein sport shocks or the B14 coilover system

I got the bilstein PSS9, and been very happy with it, I believe PSS10 does not fit on our cars but not I big difference from 10 as far as I understand. Yeah, 1/12 of the cost of 4% is tough to beat!

yea its just one of those things. like even though its 4% its essentially going to be a waste if i upgrade to coilovers anyways. however for now i am getting a bunch of other work done and need to budget out everything. replacing stock DRC struts seemed like a good idea but i def do not like the recharging of the DRC.

Yeah I get it, I ran on mine leaking a bit for a year without issues... Audi said it was "sweating" and that was on the re-call ones/upgraded. So if it's not that bad you might ride it out until you do coils. I would do some steel braided lines when you are in there dumping fluid. I got the sexy red ones from ECS and really happy with them, Bd definitely noticed a difference, plus added some high temp fluid... Or 'higher' temp fluid.

the more and more i look into this, i feel like waiting it out and doing coilovers properly. for now i might just do the control arms as the bushings are absolutely screwed, the struts seem to be okay though, not sure about the right one though.

    Left strut:

Right strut: the substance in the middle is what concerns me

If you want to save some cash, just press in new bushings probably a 100-$200 job, including parts, while keeping stock arms unless you want to go more adjustable on the camber rather than the typical adjustment through the subframe... I forgot but I think stock is like -1 something.

i actually ended up getting the whole control arm kit for the front inlcuding tie rod ends (which i need) for like $300. for now those should suffice

when i finally do get coilovers, the most i will lower it is like 1inch. so i think id be okay with non adjustable arms

another way to look at it ...
Installing new front oem struts and having a competent dealer recharge your system will give you a fresh factory ride. As Reggie said, many of us like and prefer the DRC ... remember: coilovers have their drawbacks and limitations too.
