    Red vs Black ignition coils

    Hello !

I just changed my spark plugs this weekend and realized that I have 2 out of 6 coils that are black instead of red on my car. Since I'm not the first owner I don't have the history on this and I was wondering if I need to change those for red coils ?

    Thank you !

Thanks for the link but if I look at the picture of the back coils on this post and mines they are really different. Mine don't have the metal part like the Reds, they are plastic all the way down so that's why I was wondering about the "quality"'of those a coils.

^ that was my 1 minute search link. Sorry it didn't help you. Try searching here on AZ, I'm sure there is a good bit about it.

There are interchangeable coil packs fora few different engines. My understanding is that a lot of people upgrade to the red packs that are used in the R8 and coincidentally the ones that comes stock with the b8/b8.5 S4. The Red packs are the original, black would be a downgrade, there is probably an A line car that uses the same spec'd coil. I can't image it would cause any issues unless you were well over 80k miles...
