Sepang SQ5 Build Thread - project.Sara

Well hello there.

As with my previous Audi's, it's build thread time! While not nearly as early as Mops I'm still a lil bit early as the car hasn't finished production yet, but figured I'd get the thread going now that the first parts are starting to arrive for it.

As far as OEM goes; Sepang Blue 2016 SQ5, Black Optics, 21" Wheels, Red Brakes, Black Alcantara interior, tech pack, etc.

While I want to keep some of the mods planned a secret, the more obvious things to be done are KW HAS, Ecodes, spacers (and eventually wheels), tint, and AWE exhaust, all of which have already been ordered or have already arrived Many people have jumped in already to help with the build and I can't wait to get it going. Thanks to TAG Motorsports, California Wraps, Supreme Power & Mops, AWE Tuning, Allroad Outfitters, and all the rest that have already or are going to be helping out.

Looking forward to getting to know many of you in a new section of AZ

PS: I hate how Audi misrepresents the SQ5 ride height on their site. You need KW HAS on just about the lowest setting to achieve what Audi advertises as stock height.

The pic I posted is photoshopped lower haha. I've actually got my HAS already here waiting for it, and I'll be nearly there or fully low on it

I see what you did there. Still just about every photo on the audiusa is much lower. Seems even lower then standard euro height.

PS: It's really slow in here. On a positive, you can look in once day, and it takes 2-3 minutes to catch-up

Totally agree! SQ looks great on the site but then you see it in person and it looks like a mini monster truck! Damn US and their light truck designation. Getting air installed next month to take care of that.

Yep. I had Bilstein PSS10's on my A4 and despite the quality it rode like crap so I decided to go with air this time. I also like the flexibility air gives you when maneuvering around obstacles. I just put the deposit down this morning. Definitely expensive but I really wanted to be able to lower the SQ without sacrificing ride quality.

They're called KW Street Comfort coilovers for a reason. I'm low AF and it rides better than stock at a fraction of the air suspension cost.

Well aware of the street comforts and actually considered them but I wanted to keep my ADS intact and also wanted the ability to adjust the height at the touch of a button for steep driveways and other obstacles. Air was the only choice for my particular needs.

How are coilovers going to change anything with ADS? The SQ5 doesn't have any adjustable settings with the suspension through ADS...

This is what I was referring to albeit not as clearly. I'm not sure what point your trying to make snig but I was only making a comment as to why I chose an air setup over coilovers. For some reason you feel the need to question my choice over yours which is not what I intended. Out of respect for MilesM I am going cease this volley of comments about whose proverbial suspension cock is larger so that the original post can get back on topic.

Congrats on the new machine! Sepang + HGB - man, not sure it gets any more gorgeous. Kudos.

Regarding measuring our cranks, hopefully we can find peace in the neighborhood. I've yet to see an SQ5 that has the magnetic dampers. If I'm wrong on that, I'll happily take the lesson learned without getting out my measuring tape. On the Q5, ADS (Audi Drive Select) - offers individual choices for steering, engine/transmission, and suspension. On the SQ5, there is no option for suspension settings....simply because the hardware such settings manage doesn't exist. (Again, if this has changed for '16, I'll apologize and stand corrected.)

Accordingly, on an SQ5, any suspension modifications you make will have exactly zero impact on ADS. If an air suspension rocks your boat, awesome. The setup obviously offers features that even an adjustable coilover or spring setup can't match. If the cost/features equation works in your favor, I congratulate you on the disposable income I wish I had. However, that doesn't negate the value of a less expensive coil/spring setup, and again, nor does it have any effect on the ADS system.

I stand corrected. This is my first Audi with ADS so I mistook comfort settings as having to do with the suspension. My mistake. But I still don't understand snigs need to criticize, for lack of a better term, my decision to go with air. Different setups for different needs. I like the flexibility that air offers but either choice achieves the same result which is to go low and give a more aggressive look.

LOL! I don't mind banter. It's all good. I'd have gone (or still would) air if the right deal was there but for now I've got my HAS waiting patiently for Germany to put my car on a boat.

If I tune it I'll go GIAC and likely only stage 1. After a S2+ S5 the itch might creep back a bit, we'll see. I've got plenty of wheels lined up, I just wanted the best look for in between sets :)

It's just right. Even with my aggressive looking setup, the Touring pipes fit the bill.
