Some times when shifting down it shifts down pretty hard (not as often). Did an ATF change on the car, i bought in April of this year with 88,000 miles on it and not sure if it had ever been done, may have made the hard shifting better but the slipping issue continues. Was wondering rough estimate of how much a transmission repair is on this car? Also wondering how long a transmission that is performing like this will last? If there is any way of figuring that.
Is it slipping, or is it surging. If the RPM fluctuatues 2-300rpm while holding gear, then it's most likely the Torque Converter having problems. Mine has been doing this for years, and typically is only noticeable in the cold months. Once the trans is nice and warm, it goes away. After reading more hours of threads than I can to admit, it appears there is no "fix" for it. Some have replaced converters, some have flushed fluid, some have had TCM reprogramming done (at the dealership), and solved the problem. Others have done all that 2-3 times over with no resolution. My suspicion is that the torque converter lockup solenoid is not being controlled well, and in colder conditions it allows some small slippage to occur.
If it really is a band that holds a gear slipping, then a rebuild or refresh might solve the issue.
