    2006 A4 Transmission slipping

I have a 2006 A4 Quattro and when I first drive for the day the car shifts pretty hard between 2nd and 3rd gear. It also is slipping around 21mph (If applying a normal amount of gas) @ 2-2200 RPM. Some times when shifting down it shifts down pretty hard (not as often). Did an ATF change on the car, i bought in April of this year with 88,000 miles on it and not sure if it had ever been done, may have made the hard shifting better but the slipping issue continues. Was wondering rough estimate of how much a transmission repair is on this car? Also wondering how long a transmission that is performing like this will last? If there is any way of figuring that.

Hopefully it's the torque Converter. Have seen a few done at a shop I know. don't think a code will show up either. common on the b7 at low rpms. Where the trans hunts for gear.
You don't want to know what a trans rebuild costs. Did you scan the car though?

Is it slipping, or is it surging. If the RPM fluctuatues 2-300rpm while holding gear, then it's most likely the Torque Converter having problems. Mine has been doing this for years, and typically is only noticeable in the cold months. Once the trans is nice and warm, it goes away. After reading more hours of threads than I can to admit, it appears there is no "fix" for it. Some have replaced converters, some have flushed fluid, some have had TCM reprogramming done (at the dealership), and solved the problem. Others have done all that 2-3 times over with no resolution. My suspicion is that the torque converter lockup solenoid is not being controlled well, and in colder conditions it allows some small slippage to occur.

If it really is a band that holds a gear slipping, then a rebuild or refresh might solve the issue.

Yeah I have had the car scanned 3-4 times for codes or errors since i have had it (including a full diagnostic done by the dealer) but nothing comes of it. Everyone recommends rebuilding/replacing the tranny. Im taking it to a shop to replace all upper/lower control arms so ill ask them to look in to the torque converter I guess.
