question about a4 b8 turbo lifespan and possible damage from previous incedent

I have a 2011 A4 2.0t with 78k miles on it. Bone stock besides an k&n air filter. Had it in the dealer over the summer for oil consumption repairs 1&2. Few months later the oil repairs failed and I spun a rod bearing. They thew in a brand new engine. Audi covered %50, dealer%25 and me %25. They reused my old turbo on the new engine and I am worried that it's life span could have been shortened when the rod bearing spun and shattered and possibly shot metal fragments throughout the old engine and possible the turbo Assembly.
My question is- is it possible that my turbo could have been damaged when the rod bearing failed? (it wasn't getting oil and sort of shattered into large chunk and smaller pieces under the amount of friction)
Also, what is the average life span on a stock a4 b8 turbo?

Unrelated- but if anyone wants to chime in I'm also wondering....
with about 2k on the new motor everything is running pretty smooth, except my 8 speed transmission seems very jerky especially rolling downhill from 1st to 2nd (cold start with 1-2min idle warm-up). It almost feels as though the shift from 1st to 2nd is delayed and then when it does shift the car jolts a little bit. After it is warmed up its not as harsh but still a little jerky. Wondering if this is normal for a trans with 80kish miles or if it is a symptom of something major.
    Thanks!

Stock turbo should be good for well over 200k, and I don't see how the turbo could have gotten fragments and not be screwed period, have you checked the end float of the actuating rod to see any play?

As far as the trans goes do you have a VCDS, it could be something as simple as an update. Once in a while mine will shift a little rough although I have 111xxx on my 09.

Unless a spun bearing somehow got by the rod, and shot through a piston, there's no way it could have affected the turbo. Totally different parts of the engine.

I get an occasional 1st to 2nd gear jerk on cold morning. I've scanned the transmission ---- no warnings or codes. My dealership and several of these forums have said it seems to be the 8-speed trans thing. Wouldn't worry about it unless it happens all the time.

Not to jack your thread but why would you be liable to pay the 25% out of your pocket for the engine replacement. Since your car had oil consumption issues which due to the class action suit should now have been covered to 80k and if the dealer did the piston rebuild, why wouldn't it have been guaranteed to the 80k?

Regarding the shift from first to second when first started from a cold start, I was told by my dealer this is normal as the fluid gets fully distributed and warms up in the tranny. My Wife's 8spd Q5 does this, in fact its a very noticeable jerk, lunge. Just go super easy on it til the care warms up to be safe. in other words, try to first start out really slow for the first couple of minutes, shifts.

Also, being that I too have a 2011, I'm wondering, was your car free of oil burning then all the sudden just started burning oil and if so, at what mileage.

The issue of holding first gear and jerkily shifting into second was resolved by a software update on me 6AT B8. I assume they'd have one for the 8AT also. I typically noticed it going down a hill at light throttle as well.

No software fix available on the 8 speed, at least when I asked.
