It should say on the gas tank flap, along with tire pressure specs.

Is recommended. You can use 87 but you lose power and efficiency

91 is what's required, if you can't get 91 get the closes Octan you can.

    This in a nut shell.

It says 95 for some reason on my gas flap but and I've been putting 93 in it because that what's available at my nearest gas station and a lot of people say, I should be using 91. Have I been doing anything wrong?

Alright so most gas stations in the US and Canada for that matter rate fuel octane using the Anti-Konck Index (AKI) also known as (R+M)/2, that stands for Ron + Mon divided by two. Ron and Mon are two different octane numbers to rate fuel quality. Europe and the rest of the world list octane using the Ron octane number at the pump. As such the larger number displayed on your gas flap is 95 Ron, underneath that it should say in smaller lettering 91(R+M)/2 or some such.

Basically here in the U.S the highest pump octane number shown is 91 (R+M)/2 although the quality of the gas in the 91 pump can be up to 93(R+M)/2, and there are some stations that offer 93 or 95(R+M)/2. These are the equivalent of the 95+ Ron rating for europe.

I did have to use wiki to make sure I got the terms correct as I had thought the U.S used Mron (probably because Enron why not) while the rest of the world use Ron.

The only thing 93 is doing (without an octane sensor or more aggressive tuning) is wasting your money (although sometimes it also can contain better additive packages for whatever that's worth).
I wouldn't go below 91 although plenty of people do with mixed results.

I agree with you on that one, unfortunately 93 is what I have access to.

    Better 93 than 87/89 'though.
I wish they sold 93 around here...
