We recently coated an Audi R8 with a coating called Ceramic Pro, the permanent paint protection. It protects from scratches and environmental fallout. It also makes the car easier to clean with it's hydrophobic and self cleaning properties. Fourtitude ran an entire article on it and I thought some of you guy might enjoy it.

Here is a link to the article. http://fourtitude.com/news/choice-ge...pro-treatment/

Opti-Coat is very similar to Ceramic Pro's top coat known as Light. Ceramic Pro is different mainly due to its base coat, 9H. The coating is SGS rated and has been labeled "9H" simply because it exceeded 9H on the hardness scale. 9H can also be stacked on top of its self allowing us to give it a lifetime warranty with minor maintenance. Then we top the base coat with Light, which is what gives it the extreme slickness and hydrophobic properties.

Id say that Opti-Coat does a great job with adding shine and slick feel, but on the protection side it lacks IMO. I've had customers come back after having Opti and asking for Ceramic Pro simply because it wasn't holding up quite like they claimed. Ceramic Pro on the other hand has exceeded my customers expectations.

What's the process for coating? Paint correction, all that jazz?

Kind of want this, but doesn't seem like it would make a lot of sense on a 2008, lol.

Depends on the condition of the car. I would never recommend applying a coating over paint that has not at least seen minor correction. I've worked on cars, I'm sure Baby Kito, has as well that are in rough shape and even after minor correction and a coating they look 100% better.

So usually it goes something like this...

    Clean wheels/wells
    Pre Soak and rinse
    Wash
    Clay and Decontamination
    Compound & Polish or Polish
    Coating

How much would you guys charge to apply this ceramic pro coating on an entire B6 Audi S4? I am getting a full respray paint job soon and want to protect my investment. Originally I had planned on getting the car 3M wrapped for being outside so the bird poop and other dirt/grime doesn't stick to the paint. Also how does the ceramic pro coating handle rock chips? Am I better off still getting the front end wrapped in a protective layer to prevent rock chips?

Do yourselves a favor, get a second opinion. Devin @ Dominion Auto Detailing has been doing this for a long time. The last thing you want to do is get a permanent coat application done wrong.

Devin had been taking care of my RS7 and fleet of my other vehicles for over 3 years. I wouldn't recommend anyone else (and I've tried other detailers).

csullivan, like what mto925 said pretty much covers the basics. Then during the coating process there is some extensive cure times involved between the 9H and Light coat. Plus additional time if more coats are desired of either by the customer.

Be sure to look at Ceramic Pro when you get to that point. Awesome product.

Jimmybones, it really varies on the car. Mainly because every car is different in what it may need for correction etc. I agree protecting the new spray would be a great idea, but first we would need to wait 30 days for the paint to breathe and release and gasses before applying. Our website does have the base prices listed for each package if you'd like to take a look.

Now as far as for the PPF. Ceramic coatings can protect from A LOT of road damage but there will be a few that still penetrate. If your looking to have the front end fully protected then id suggest pairing the PPF with the coating. Really depends on how much you want to invest!

Kiku, I agree. Second opinions are always a great idea. I also suggest watching customer videos of the coatings. It's a great way to see it from the perspective of somebody who actually invested in the coating versus a salesman. But just my two cents.

    Also, your link didn't open!

Thanks! We are still messing around with the gun to get the settings perfect but it makes wheels, grills, engine bays and vents a dream to coat.

ThewhippetsS5, the coating process takes 2 days but if the car needs corrected etc it can take longer. Really depends on the condition of the car. Feel free to shoot me an email and we can discuss it further if you'd like! [email protected]
