    the 15 year old 208k mile oem spider hose is done away with

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    replaced with 034's silicone hose which is a lot more robust than the stupid looks-at-it-and-it-breaks oem plastic assembly

    did discover that with the 034 hose installed, the sai pump wont fit
    not a big deal, will just pick up the block off kit and be done with the sai altogether
    if anyone wants/needs a sai setup, mine will be available soon

    did manage to remove the old spider in most its entirety

    and i had only 3 extra pieces not counting the extra hose clamps

    a little tip for those doing this in the future.
    the connection to the back of the recesses of the engine is a real PITA.
    what i did was take the valve cover connector, wrap it with electrical tape to make it thick enough the clamp well to, and use that for the connection instead of fighting it until the sun sets.
    Rockin' the Rockies
    '01 allroad, 250k woot woot, still boosting on original turbos and tippy, slightly modified. . .

    Stupid question....what is SAI?

    And this is one of the reasons I've been holding off doing mine.....looks like a real PITA for sure.

    SAI= secondary air injection.
    I replaced my spider hose a while back as well. With the SAI pump out of the way, the rear connection are far more accessible. At first, I was trying with SAI in place and was damn challenging to say the least. The biggest challenge was the middle, lower connection. Mine did not want to come off at all, so I figure since I was replacing it anyhow, I just snipped/broke the connector and it came off in pieces. OP, looks like you may have had the same prob? LOL!

    What was the state of the old spider hose? Was it clogged at all?

    They usually develop cracks or get clogged with that brownish crud. Still have my old connection.. Saving some cash for the 034 silicon.

    It's really easy after you do it a few times. Takes me like no time at all anymore. I did make my own though and that adds some durability and flexibility as well.
