Exclamation Q5 aftermarket Sub installation - HELP!

Hey everyone! Just installed a 12" Alpine Type R sub in my Q5 with a stock sound system and head unit. Problem I'm running into is that with the factory setup when the volume is at approx 50% the stereo has a lot of juice running to the sub. As the volume is turned up further after 50% the power to the sub is only marginally increased. So basically the sub is getting about +75% power when the volume is at 50%. Now with the Type R installed this volume flaw is MUCH more pronounced. To hook the Type R up the shop unplugged the stock sub in the spare tire and used that for the main input. Is there someway to tap into the computer and adjust this somehow? It's very annoying.

Another problem is that in the sound settings you have the choice to adjust power to the Sub, and separately the Bass level. The door speakers seem to take mid-high bass notes while the sub is responsible for the deep lows. With the stock sub replaced with the powerful Type R the deep lows BOOM extremely nice, but is there a way to reroute all the bass levels to be received by the sub input? Again, is there a way to get into the CPU and adjust this or is it a pure amp issue? Some songs with a nice mix of mids and deeps sound off because the sub bangs out the deeps but not the mids.

Curious to learn this as well.

Assuming you have the stock system (not B&O) since you have mmi sub level adjustment. I'm planning on replacing my sub in the coming weeks too. Do you happen to know what the shop used as a remote wire? As in the signal wire that turns on the sub? Ideally it would be something that would power on only when the factory amp is powered on (so it turns on only when the rest of the sound system is on), but many haven't been able to find a good solution and just tap in to a random accessory circuit.e

I'm not a car audio expert but maybe you can get a bass knob that controls the gain for the sub amp. You can then adjust the sub level to match the main volume to your taste without having to go into the sound settings every time.

Once again, I'm not an expert but I think it would be expensive to reroute the bass frequencies because you'd probably need a DSP and a new amp. Then on top of that new speakers to take advantage of the new equipment.

Maybe you can also try a car audio specific forum to see if someone there has a good solution.

@yakev724. I've heard many that tap into the 12v accessory wire on the right side of the trunk as the power signal.

Yeah this is what I've read as well, though its not ideal.

Just read about someone tapping into the red row of fuses in the fuse box - wire which is grey with a purple stripe. Supposedly this one's on only with ignition, not just acc. So I'll likely just do that, though I'm surprised the stock amp's +12V line is inaccessible...

Have you also added an amplifier?
The easiest way I guess is to use an amp with high level input and remote on based on the input signal.

If you want something that would be much better, buy a plug and play amp with built in sound processor, then you can tweak the sub as you like.
Also if you look at the Helix PP 82DSP, you can actually replace the original amp with a much better one and tweak the whole system.

And if you are really serious, you buy a Mobridge interface unit that allows you to do even more.

Hi i know this is an old post but what did you end up using as 12v remote turn on for the amp. I tried tapping into the rear 12v accessory wire on the right side of the trunk but didn't work for me as a remote turn on. Thanks
