    Cam Follower Fun

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After reading about the cam follower issues I had it changed today with my oil change at my local shop, and as you can see from the picture below, it's all F'd up. The shop says the cam has also been getting chewed up but couldn't get a picture of it.

I read about the extended warranty on this and called me local dealership across town to verify that I was in the 10 year 120,000 mile period and the service rep said I was but once I got there the service associate looking over what I presented said I was out of warranty since the drop off date was September 23, 2005, so I guess that puts me about 2 months and 2 weeks past the warranty period so after trying to get by the books, no emotion, Brad the service associate to work with me I asked him should I get it diagnosed through the dealer and see if they would do good will service and he advised me to call AoA first.

I called AoA from across the street at the gas station and they of course told me that he should have had me get it diagnosed first at Audi first so I could then submit it to AoA for a good will service claim. Now I've had two people from my local Audi dealership misinform me, but I have no choice but to return and have it diagnosed so I can try and get AoA to cover it or else I'm gonna have to pay my shop around $1500 to replace the hpfp and cam, maybe even the cam chain.

Did you notice anything wrong with your car at all or did it drive fine. Were you doing the cam follower because of maintenance or because of issues you were experiencing?

Thanks for the links Jake, I may have to go that route.

I would really make sure they get it. It can really messed up your engine. Read up some of the threads concerning this.

Either talk to the service guys at your dealer or Audi themselves. The service guys can pull any open recalls/warranties based on your vin. You can enter your vin on the audi website too, but I'm not sure how reliable that is.

If you're an '07, you should be covered for 10 years, 120,000 miles.

You can always call AoA. They should know based on your VIN what date it goes until. As long as you're under 120k.

If Audi Of America doesn't handle the claim we do have a full kit and cam followers available...

FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT KIT (2.0T FSI, HIGH-PRESSURE)

    Starting at $284.90

    FREE SHIPPING!

High-pressure fuel pump replacement kit for the 2.0T FSI motors. The cam follower on the 2.0T FSI motor is notorious for wearing through and causing camshaft wear. If you're lucky enough to have avoided camshaft wear, a cam follower and fuel pump replacement should get you back on the road. We have created a top-of-the-line replacement kit using only OEM parts and worked with our suppliers to keep the price as low as possible. This kit is always in stock and ships the same day.

GUARANTEED TO FIT THE FOLLOWING MODELS:

    2006-2008 Audi A3 8P 2.0T (BPY engine code)
    2005-2008 Audi A4 B7 2.0T

Just did one of these at work, car is actually sitting in my driveway right now. The Indy shop had no problem selling them a valve cover gasket and timing belt for $1800 and then sending them to us for the warranty camshaft knowing full well the timing belt and valve cover gasket would be pulled anyway, meaning we could have done it for parts cost. Audi paid me 6 hours for the job, but because of all the bolts and connectors broken by the Indy, it took me about 12. I was less than enthused and cannot wait to see this car ride off into the sunset...

Well AoA isn't going to give me any good will assistance so I'm on my own to get it done. My local shop said they could do it for $1500.

Wow that sucks, we recently split the cost of this repair with a customer with 150k on their a4. Do you normally get services and repairs done at the dealer or an Indy?
