B8 A4 Engine Seized at 64k miles, need recommendations

    Hey everyone,

As the title says, engine seems to have blown in my 2010 A4. On Thursday I drove it to work as normal, went to get lunch, car started right up but was idling rough. I drove it about a 1/4 of a mile (drove smooth) and pulled in to gas station and shut it off. Let it sit, put in some gas, and then it wouldn't start back up. The gas station had a mechanic on site who looked at it quick and said he'd recommend taking it to an Audi specialist. I had it towed to a former Audi dealership mechanic who looked at it and confirmed that "timing was off a tick" and, at least, the cylinder head needed to be replaced. He said I was looking at $6-7k. He suggested that I take it to a dealership and fight with Audi about it.

Anybody have any suggestions on what to do/where to go from here? I still owe a fair amount on the car and definitely can't afford to pay anything even close to that for a repair. This seems ridiculous to me that this even happened.

Wow, that sucks... Do you have any documented issues that could somehow be tied to the engine seizing? Did you keep all your maintenance receipts if you went the DIY route? You can take a punt and have it towed to a dealer, or try a good indie shop; I used Brain's Garage and they are honest guys.

This seems like one of those times (happens when DSGs go BOOM) where Audi will not accept fault but might give you an insanely good trade-in value.

Unfortunately I don't have regular oil change maintenance receipts but may be able to pull them from bank statement if that would suffice (doubtful). Foolishly, didn't anticipate any major mechanical issues with the car.

Audi can still do an oil analysis, but having all the receipts (and entries in your owner's manual) would have helped your case.

    Good luck!
